A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a candidate looking to progress their career in Mechanical Engineering. The ideal candidate will be someone who has experience and working knowledge of safety and efficient maintenance of an assigned area of plant and equipment. A candidate who can formulate, deliver and constantly review and improve maintenance strategies to optimise equipment availability and reliability in conjunction with the operational requirements in accordance with current legislation as itemised in the Mines Regulations 2014 and any other legislation.

The Key Responsibilities:

  • Make informed decisions associated with hazard identification and risk management to ensure safe operations are maintained and internal and external safety, environmental and legislative requirements are met.
  • Provides maintenance strategy and technical expertise for assigned area both during and outside normal hours as demanded by safety and business requirements.
  • Ensures equipment is maintained in a safe reliable condition by the use of appropriate methods.
  • Drives and delivers effective maintenance efficiently in a safe manner at the optimum cost for assigned area.
  • Formulates and agrees KPI’s for the assigned equipment with the Operational team.
  • Reviews equipment performance, reliability and failure, leading and delivering improvement and defect elimination programmes.
  • Responsible for determining the competency profile requirements of their team to deliver maintenance effectively and efficiently and the subsequent personal and competency development of team members to achieve this requirement.
  • Organises and directs outage (Shutdown) activity for the assigned area via the appropriate channels – Production Managers, Operations Managers, Asset Management and Planning Engineer.
  • Develop, deliver and manage projects for enhancement, new equipment and technology.
  • Prepare future budgets and forecasts for maintenance and projects and manages the agreed budgets.
  • Working closely with Stores and Supply Chain, formulate and agree spares stock holding as well as spares forecasts.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the engineering team in their section (Engineering Planner, Foremen and Craftsmen).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ideally educated to degree level or working towards relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical), experienced time served craftsman with relevant qualification is an added advantage.
  • Several years’ experience of working in heavy industry and significant knowledge of maintenance in their relevant discipline.
  • Proven track record including supervision and management of engineering teams and equipment.
  • Knowledge of equipment relating to material handling, ship loading, mining or minerals processing.
  • Highly motivated and demonstrable history of improving safety performance, productivity and reliability in a manufacturing environment.
  • Capable of effective communications at all levels within the business with written, verbal, and visual presentation.
  • Good working knowledge of Operational Excellence and application of lean techniques in manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrable leader with a high level of team skills allowing ability to lead and inspire teams.
  • Proficient in PC skills, having a thorough knowledge of SAP PM, Microsoft Project and Excel.
  • Knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques to improve equipment reliability.
  • Creative thinking and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Track record of applying innovation and technology to improve operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications/Certificates/Experience:

  • Degree educated (Mechanical Engineering) or working towards NEBOSH General Certificate (Preferable).
  • Certificate of Management Studies (CMS).
  • Ideally holds a membership of Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
