Mechanical Operations Engineer (Mining)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a candidate looking to progress their career in Mechanical Engineering. The ideal candidate will be someone who has experience and working knowledge of safety and efficient maintenance of an assigned area of plant and equipment. They should be able to formulate, deliver and constantly review and improve maintenance strategies to optimise equipment availability and reliability in conjunction with the operational requirements in accordance with current legislation as itemised in the Mines Regulations 2014 and any other legislation.

Role Responsibilities:

• Make informed decisions associated with hazard identification and risk management to ensure safe operations are maintained and internal and external safety, environmental and legislative requirements are met.
• Provide maintenance strategy and technical expertise for the assigned area both during and outside normal hours as demanded by safety and business requirements.
• Ensure equipment is maintained in a safe reliable condition by the use of appropriate methods.
• Drive and deliver effective maintenance efficiently in a safe manner at the optimum cost for the assigned area.
• Formulate and agree KPIs for the assigned equipment with the Operational team.
• Review equipment performance, reliability and failure, leading and delivering improvement and defect elimination programmes.
• Determine the competency profile requirements of their team to deliver maintenance effectively and efficiently and the subsequent personal and competency development of team members to achieve this requirement.
• Organise and direct outage activity for the assigned area via the appropriate channels – Operations Managers, Asset Management and Planning Engineer.
• Develop, deliver and manage projects for enhancement, new equipment and technology. Prepare future budgets and forecasts for maintenance and projects and manage to agreed budgets.
• Formulate and agree spares stock holding. Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure asset reliability is delivered through adherence to planned maintenance schedules and operator care standards.
• Provide leadership and direction to the engineering team in their section (Engineering Planner, Foremen and Craftsmen).

Requirements:

Essential:

• Must be educated to degree level or working towards relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical), experienced time served craftsman with relevant qualification is an added advantage.
• Several years' experience of working in heavy industry and significant knowledge of maintenance in their relevant discipline.
• Proven track record including supervision and management of engineering teams and equipment.
• Knowledge of equipment relating to mining or minerals processing as required by their specific area of deployment (processing or underground).
• Highly motivated and demonstrable history of improving safety performance, productivity and reliability in a manufacturing environment.
• Capable of effective communications at all levels within the business with written, verbal, and visual presentation.
• Good working knowledge of Operational Excellence and application of lean techniques in manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrable leader with a high level of team skills allowing ability to lead and inspire teams.
• Proficient in PC skills, having a thorough knowledge of SAP PM, Microsoft Project and Excel.
• Knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques to improve equipment reliability.
• Creative thinking and excellent problem-solving skills.
• Ability in solving problems in a new way, seeing past what is established and creating a new way of doing things.
• Track record of applying innovation and technology to improve operational efficiency required.

Desirable:

• Ideally have completed the NEBOSH General Certificate.
• Ideally hold formal project management qualifications.
• Ideally hold Chartership or membership of a relevant engineering institution and working towards.
