The Control Systems Engineer will work alongside the C&I Manager and National Automation Manager to ensure that instrumentation and control systems across the ICL Group of chemical manufacturing plants are properly designed, engineered, maintained and operated. This role will support a wide range of engineering, maintenance and project activities.

  • Design and programming of control systems for all process plant.
  • Attend safety studies (e.g. Hazops, MOCs etc.) as C&I specialist.
  • Follow all Control practices and procedures in the management system to ensure compliance with all standards and regulations at all ICGL sites.
  • Consulting diagrams and technical documentation such as schematics, manuals and standards.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with codes and legal regulations.
  • Provide support and guidance in the maintenance and general upkeep of plants' control systems and loops for smooth and efficient operation.
  • Routinely inspect and monitor control and instrumentation equipment and other peripheries to ensure it remains functional and according to standards.
  • Identify and report safety related issues including near miss and incidents through PRIME incident reporting system.
  • Identify opportunities to improve company documentation (e.g. engineering standards and procedures) and work with the rest of the team to implement any changes.
  • Provide training and coaching for maintenance technicians in order to upskill them in plant troubleshooting.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to work in a pressurised environment, and to deal with situations calmly.
  • Highly organised and capable of managing competing priorities.
  • Experience in the specification and fault finding of typical instrumented equipment and loops (pressure, temperature, level, flow, pH, control valves etc.).
  • Experience in designing control systems from first principles.
  • Knowledge of SIFs and SIL loops.
  • HND or Higher in Control / Instrument Engineering.
  • Experience with Firewall configuration.
  • Experience with Virtualised environments.
  • Electrical knowledge would be an advantage.
