About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Lab & Quality Operative to support laboratory testing and quality control activities within our growing media operations. This is a varied, hands-on role combining analytical work with on-site quality monitoring and occasionally assist with forklift operations when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine laboratory testing on raw materials and finished growing media products
- Prepare, label, and process samples in line with internal procedures
- Perform quality control checks throughout production processes
- Accurately record, analyse, and report test results
- Support investigation and resolution of quality issues and non-conformances
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment
- Ensure laboratory areas are kept clean, organised, and compliant with standards
- Support adherence to quality, environmental, and health & safety procedures
- Work closely with production team to monitor and improve product quality
- Occasionally assist with forklift operations when required and also operate weighbridge
Requirements
- Previous laboratory or quality control experience preferred but not essential
- Strong attention to detail and good data recording skills
- Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving ability
- Forklift license desirable (training can be provided)
- Flexible and willing to support wider site activities when needed
The Role Purpose
As a Multi-Skilled QC Operator, you will need to efficiently operate all production lines in the mill to meet volume requirements and satisfy customer needs. This role also involves operating vehicles on the sites. Adherence to all site health and safety regulations is mandatory, with a requirement to report to the Health and Safety Manager. A flexible approach is required with the need to cover all jobs on site and help out with site improvements during the quieter period.
The Role Responsibilities:
- Safety: Monitor and always maintain a safe working environment. Enter all machine check and safety data into company systems
- Absence Cover: Provide coverage for absent personnel as required.
- Quality Control: Conduct bulk weight density check and comply with various other testing methods to meet product specification.
- Reporting: Complete all daily production reports with the required information.
- Coordination: Liaise with mixer operators and quality control to ensure the correct volumes are produced, and report any anomalies observed during production.
- Machinery Operation: Operate IBC, Probale, form fill bagging machines & Woodfibre plant (holiday cover)
- Vehicle Operation: Forklifts
The Requirements:
- Forklift Truck License (the above can be trained in house if required but prior experience would be preferred)
- Full UK driving licence is essential due to the remote location of the site
- Working hours will be 6am to 2pm with a reasonable amount of overtime expected to be worked during the busy period, on occasions there may be an opportunity of nightshift depending on production demand.
