ICL Boulby Mine – North Yorkshire Coast. Located on the North Yorkshire coastline, Boulby Mine is one of the deepest mines in Europe and part of a world‑leading organisation supplying essential minerals to global agriculture and industry and is currently the world’s only operational polyhalite mine. Working here is not comparable to standard industrial maintenance. As an Underground Electrician, you’ll operate in a highly specialised environment beneath the surface, working on complex systems that offer far greater technical challenge and variety than typical plant-based roles. This is an opportunity to develop skills and experience that are genuinely hard to find elsewhere.
The Role
As part of the underground electrical team, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving critical mining equipment that keeps the operation running safely and efficiently. Your work will involve inspecting, fault-finding and repairing a wide range of underground systems, including face-line machinery, conveyors and switchgear, alongside maintaining communication and lighting infrastructure. You will balance planned maintenance with reactive breakdown response, ensuring downtime is minimised and performance is maintained. You will work within permit systems, carry out electrical isolations and ensure full compliance with statutory and site safety standards. You will also collaborate closely with production and engineering teams to diagnose issues, make sound decisions under pressure and contribute to ongoing improvements in reliability and performance.
About You
You are a time-served Electrician with experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, mining or processing environments. You have a strong working knowledge of HV/LV systems (up to 11kV) and experience maintaining plant equipment such as conveyors, pumps or similar heavy machinery. You are confident fault-finding in operational environments and working under pressure, with a proactive and practical approach to problem-solving. Exposure to PLC or control systems would be beneficial, but not essential. Above all, you bring a strong safety-first mindset, a team-focused attitude and the motivation to continually develop your technical skills.
Why Join ICL Boulby
- Develop highly specialised, in-demand technical skills in a unique underground environment
- Work on complex systems not found in typical industrial roles
- Be part of a supportive, experienced team with a strong safety culture
- Enjoy varied, challenging work where no two days are the same
- Join a stable, long-term operation backed by a global organisation
- Excellent benefits package and on site facilities
What You’ll Bring
