The post holder must be fully qualified across all aspects of their trade and capable of delivering work to the standards, specifications, and finish expected of a qualified craftsman.

The role involves carrying out defined tasks in accordance with written instructions, while also demonstrating the initiative and judgement needed to support the Depot in delivering a high‑quality, reliable service to the wider business. Flexibility is essential, as the role requires the ability to work across both core and non‑core trades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out work as directed by the Line Manager, ensuring deadlines and priorities are met.

  • Accurately complete all required documentation in line with Depot procedures and standards.
  • Ensure all work areas are left clean, tidy, and safe upon completion of tasks.
  • Take responsibility for all tools, equipment, and property, ensuring safe use and correct storage.
  • Deliver high‑quality workmanship that consistently meets required standards and specifications.
  • Check and verify non‑core work to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Accurately input and maintain data using IT systems.

Education Requirements / Person Specification

  • NVQ in Welding or a comparable recognised qualification.
  • GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • Completed time‑served apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ Level 3 qualification.
  • Trained in problem‑solving techniques, root cause analysis, and effective team working.
  • NVQ Level 3 in a non‑core trade (e.g. Engineering Maintenance or Production) or equivalent qualification.
  • Competent IT skills.
