As one of the Best Big Companies to Work For, we have a rich history of loving our customers and looking after our teams. We understand that success is achieved through our people, and we are searching for a committed and passionate Air Conditioning Contract Manager to join our growing business.
Purpose of the role: The successful candidate will lead the performance management of 3rd party air conditioning contractors to ensure service standards, statutory compliance, and agreed contractual obligations are consistently delivered across the estate. They will also own supplier relationships to drive improvement in contractor performance, service quality, and compliance, while identifying opportunities to reduce cost, improve value, and enhance the reliability and lifecycle performance of A/C assets. The role will retain a strong technical presence through on-site inspections, technical audits, defect investigations, and occasional field-based support to contractors and internal stakeholders to resolve complex issues and improve standards in delivery.
We are looking for a technically strong A/C, HVAC or refrigeration professional with experience in commercial maintenance environments, who can combine practical engineering knowledge with contractor performance management, compliance oversight and commercial awareness. The successful candidate will be comfortable being out in the field when needed, challenging standards, improving supplier performance and helping deliver a reliable, compliant and cost-effective A/C service across our estate. This role will be field-based with a minimum of 2 days a week at our Deeside office.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage the performance of 3rd party A/C contractors to ensure service delivery, KPIs, contractual obligations, and agreed service standards are consistently achieved.
- Monitor, challenge, and report on contractor performance, identifying service failures, non-compliance, and opportunities to improve quality, responsiveness, and value.
- Carry out on-site inspections, technical audits, and defect investigations to validate workmanship, support high-risk locations, and drive improvement in contractor delivery standards.
- Own supplier relationships to influence performance, improve technical standards, and ensure statutory, health and safety, and compliance requirements are delivered in full.
- Support cost control and asset reliability by identifying repeat failures, challenging unnecessary spend, and driving corrective actions that improve lifecycle performance across the estate.
Experience needed:
- Strong background in commercial A/C, HVAC or refrigeration, ideally with experience across retail, multi-site, facilities management, or similar fast-paced environments.
- Practical engineering experience, with the confidence to inspect work on site, challenge poor workmanship, support defect investigations and understand root cause of repeat failures.
- Experience working with third-party contractors or service providers, ideally monitoring performance against KPIs, SLAs, compliance requirements and service standards.
- Good understanding of planned and reactive maintenance, including how contractor performance impacts asset reliability, cost, downtime and customer/store operations.
- Knowledge of statutory compliance, health and safety and industry standards relevant to A/C maintenance, repair and contractor delivery.
- Commercial awareness, with experience identifying unnecessary spend, repeat failures, poor value or opportunities to improve asset lifecycle performance.
- Supplier relationship management experience, including the ability to influence, challenge and hold contractors accountable while maintaining professional relationships.
- Ability to use data and reporting to spot trends, review performance, identify problem sites and recommend corrective action.
- Strong communication skills, able to explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Multi-site experience would be highly beneficial, especially across a national estate, retail, hospitality, logistics, FM or property environment.
