Purpose of Role
The role holder will drive forward and deliver outcome-focused digital, systems and process change across the organisation. The Delivery Manager will lead on the delivery of digital projects, as well contributing to the technical systems design to support the business objectives. They will work closely with the Senior Development Team to shape and manage the squads backlog, and with internal resource and third-party developers to ensure business requirements are understood, supplier resources are committed to delivery and projects are kept on track.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end to end delivery of digital projects and product enhancements and technology infrastructure change.
- Successful management of the digital and IT delivery roadmaps that are visible and trusted by the wider teams.
- Create and maintain the detailed delivery plans, sprint plans, or phase plans.
- Ensure the team is unblocked, productive, and progressing against milestones.
- Drive the Teams (both internal and External) to work at pace, ensuring the team are working towards delivery commitments.
- Ensure the team collaborates, communicates, and focuses on what is most important.
- Proactively manage dependencies and constraints; keep the teams unblocked and focused on the highest-value work.
- Establish effective working relationships with all key stakeholders.
Team Leadership
- Manage delivery resources (developers, testers, architects, etc.).
- Build, coach, and motivate cross-functional project teams.
- Run effective ceremonies (stand-ups, retros, sprint ceremonies etc) and partner with the Business Stakeholders / Product Owners to shape, prioritise and refine the backlog.
- Set the pace, ensuring teams are working towards delivery commitments.
- Use flow metrics (throughput, cycle time, burnups/velocity) to drive continuous improvement and predictability.
- Lead by example and coach team members and others, facilitate continuous improvement and apply the most appropriate agile and lean tools and techniques suited to the Iceland way of working.
Experience
- Proven record leading delivery in an agile environment (Scrum/Kanban/Lean) with hands-on backlog management.
- Exceptional communication and facilitation able to challenge and refine requirements and align diverse stakeholders.
- Strong planning and coordination skills forecasting, estimating, risk management, and road mapping.
- Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle and how to move from idea to stable operations.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and third-party partners to deliver measurable outcomes.
Desirable
- Experience in fast-paced retail, eCommerce, or supply chain environments.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps (or Jira) for backlog and delivery management.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), integration patterns/APIs, CI/CD, testing, and release management.
- Useful certifications (e.g., Scrum Master, Prince2, APM, SAFe) welcome but not required.
