About Icebrg

Icebrg is a London-based WealthTech firm building a next-generation Platform as a Service for modern investment managers. Our cloud-native, API-driven platform integrates custody, trading, portfolio management, reporting and compliance workflows into a single, institutional-grade solution. With live connectivity to Saxo Bank (sub-custody and execution), Addepar (portfolio reporting) and a broad ecosystem of API-based services – including client KYC/AML, sanctions screening and market data – Icebrg enables scalable, compliant operations for wealth managers, asset managers and advisers.

Icebrg operates in partnership with an FCA-authorised partner firm – an established UK firm and London Stock Exchange member with over 30 years of regulated trading, custody and client-money experience. We currently operate in closed beta with live clients and are preparing for a commercial launch to a B2B audience of wealth managers, External Asset Managers (EAMs), IFAs, asset managers, independent investment managers and multi-family offices.

We are building the team that will take the platform to market. This is a rare opportunity to own and shape the compliance function of a regulated WealthTech platform from the ground up.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Compliance Officer to design, build and run the day-to-day compliance function as we move the platform from closed beta to commercial scale. This is a broad, hands-on compliance generalist role spanning regulatory conduct, financial crime, client assets and governance – not a single-discipline position.

As one of the first dedicated compliance hires, you will work closely with the CEO, the operations and technology teams, and the partner firm’s SMF16 and SMF17 holders to ensure compliance is embedded into our client journeys, controls and culture. You will translate the UK regulatory framework into practical, scalable processes that work for a technology-led business, and you will be the credible compliance voice in front of clients, partners and the regulator.

The role carries a genuine pathway to holding the SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) and/or SMF17 (Money Laundering Reporting Officer) functions, subject to experience, fitness and propriety, and FCA approval. It is ideally suited to someone who wants to combine operational, hands-on compliance work with the strategic build-out of a compliance programme in a fast-moving, regulated fintech environment.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Advisory

• Build, own and continuously enhance the firm’s compliance framework for the platform business – policies, procedures, registers, controls and governance documentation.

• Provide practical, risk-based regulatory advice to the business across the FCA Handbook, including SYSC, the Principles for Businesses, COBS (conduct of business), and the rules applicable to a MiFID firm.

• Monitor regulatory developments and horizon-scan for change (e.g. Consumer Duty, financial crime, operational resilience, the evolving SDR/sustainability disclosure regime), assessing impact and coordinating implementation.

• Support FCA notifications, regulatory reporting (RegData returns), permissions and variation matters, and information requests.

• Review and approve financial promotions and marketing materials for the platform launch, ensuring communications are fair, clear and not misleading.

Financial Crime (AML / CTF / Sanctions)

• Own and operate the firm’s AML, Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), sanctions and wider financial crime framework, in line with the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 and JMLSG guidance.

• Oversee customer onboarding and the end-to-end identity, KYC, KYB, CDD and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) processes – including for B2B clients (wealth managers, EAMs, IFAs) and their underlying clients.

• Review higher-risk relationships, politically exposed persons (PEPs), adverse media, sanctions matches and complex ownership structures; conduct ongoing monitoring and periodic KYC refreshes.

• Investigate suspicious activity, and prepare and submit internal reports and Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the NCA where required.

• Maintain the firm-wide financial crime risk assessment and act as MLRO or deputy MLRO as the role develops.

Client Assets, Conduct & Consumer Outcomes

• Provide compliance oversight of client money and custody assets (CASS), working with Operations to ensure controls, reconciliations and the CASS framework meet FCA requirements.

• Oversee conduct-of-business obligations, including client categorisation, appropriateness and suitability, best execution, and client communications and disclosures.

• Embed the Consumer Duty across the platform – fair value, good consumer outcomes, avoidance of foreseeable harm, and clear, supportive client communications – and help evidence this to the regulator.

• Oversee complaints handling in line with DISP, identify root causes and drive remediation.

Monitoring, Risk & Governance

• Design and execute a risk-based compliance monitoring and testing programme; perform thematic reviews and control effectiveness assessments.

• Track compliance issues, breaches and remediation actions through to closure, and validate that fixes are effective and embedded.

• Produce clear management information (MI), dashboards and committee reporting for senior leadership and governance forums.

• Maintain market integrity controls relevant to the firm, including market abuse surveillance (MAR) and supporting transaction reporting accuracy, in coordination with Operations.

• Support internal and external audits and assurance activities.

Third-Party Risk & Operational Resilience

• Provide compliance oversight of outsourcing and critical third-party relationships (e.g. Saxo Bank, Addepar, cloud and data providers), ensuring arrangements meet FCA outsourcing and operational resilience expectations – a growing area of supervisory focus.

• Contribute to the firm’s operational resilience framework, important business services mapping, and incident escalation.

Culture, Training & SM&CR

• Support the firm’s Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SM&CR) obligations – fitness and propriety, conduct rules, certification and training.

• Deliver compliance and financial crime training and promote a strong culture of compliance and ethical conduct across the organisation.

• Act as a trusted advisor to the business, balancing regulatory obligations with commercial objectives.

Your Experience, Skills and Knowledge

Essential

• Solid experience (typically 5+ years) in a compliance role within an FCA-regulated investment firm, wealth manager, broker, asset manager or comparable WealthTech / fintech environment.

Strong working knowledge of the UK regulatory framework relevant to a MiFID investment firm, including: the FCA Principles and SYSC; conduct of business (COBS); client assets (CASS); AML / CTF / sanctions and the Money Laundering Regulations; Consumer Duty; financial promotions; and SM&CR.

• Hands-on experience of customer due diligence, EDD, PEP and sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and SAR investigation and reporting.

• Experience writing policies, procedures and risk assessments, and running compliance monitoring or testing activity.

• Comfortable operating independently in an early-stage or scale-up environment – building processes from scratch, working through ambiguity, and being genuinely hands-on.

• Excellent written communication and report-writing skills, with sound, risk-based judgement and strong stakeholder management.

Desirable

• Prior experience as, or readiness to be approved as, an SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) and/or SMF17 (MLRO) holder.

• Experience with custody / client money operations, multi-asset trading, settlement, or platform / Platform-as-a-Service business models.

• Experience overseeing B2B / intermediary relationships where clients are themselves regulated firms.

• A relevant professional qualification – for example, the ICA Diploma in Governance, Risk & Compliance (or Compliance), ACAMS / CAMS, or a CISI qualification.

• A data-driven mindset and interest in automation and technology-enabled (“RegTech”) compliance.

• Degree in Law, Finance, Economics or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).

What We Offer

• Competitive base salary (depending on experience and SMF status), plus performance-based equity options – a real stake in the value you help create.

• A founding compliance role, and genuine influence over how a regulated WealthTech platform is built and taken to market.

• A clear pathway to holding senior management functions (SMF16 / SMF17) as the business scales.

• Professional development budget and support towards relevant qualifications.

• The opportunity to build and own the compliance core of a disruptive WealthTech platform.
