An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated SHE Advisor to join our expanding team, providing Health, Safety & Environmental advice and hands-on support to project management teams across Southern England and United Utilities regions. If you’re looking to develop your career in Health, Safety and Environmental Management, this role offers the chance to help implement our Management Systems, shape our cultural journey, and grow your skills within a collaborative Joint Venture in the Water Sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of the SHE Roadmap, driving continual improvement across the JV and working with operational teams to address short-, medium- and long-term growth and learning opportunities.
- Undertake Site Safety Inspections, producing clear reports and providing constructive feedback to Operations Management and Supply Chain partners.
- Carry out and support incident investigations, identifying root causes and key learning outcomes.
- Provide ongoing SHE guidance and support to operational teams from planning through to project completion.
- Review high-risk operational risk assessments and method statements alongside operational teams.
- Participate in external SHE audits and Client Reviews, contributing to compliance and continuous improvement.
- Assist with the onboarding and review of Supply Chain partners, ensuring alignment with SHE expectations.
- Support the learning and development programme by preparing training materials, delivering sessions, and presenting on SHE topics aligned with trends.
- Use Health & Safety performance KPIs to analyse trends and drive improvement actions.
- Stay up to date with changes in legislation, industry standards, and best practice.
- Support client-led initiatives and represent the organisation at Client SHE Forums and working groups.
- Undertake any other duties, training, or hours of work reasonably required and aligned with the role.
Technical Competencies
- Strong awareness of construction techniques and processes.
- Understanding of the project lifecycle from planning to completion.
- Awareness of competence schemes and their practical application.
- Ability to prepare accurate, well-written reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and confidence with cloud-based systems.
- Self-motivated with strong communication skills.
- Good judgement and the ability to seek support when needed.
Experience
- Experience within Civil Engineering, ideally in the Water Sector or Utilities.
- Background in Operational Health & Safety Management within project or site-based environments.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate (preferred) or working towards Grad IOSH / NEBOSH Diploma.
- NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent.
