The Role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Engineering Manager to lead our UK-based engineering function and play a critical role in delivering infrastructure around the world.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Civil or Structural Engineer who enjoys combining technical leadership with people development, quality assurance and customer-focused engineering solutions.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will lead and develop a team of engineers responsible for delivering technical design and support for Acrow's modular steel bridge solutions.

You will ensure that engineering outputs meet the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance whilst supporting the successful delivery of projects across the UK and internationally.

You will oversee our Site Services team, ensuring activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with Construction Regulations and Company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of engineers and technical specialists.
  • Promote a culture of quality, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Review and approve structural calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership on steel structures, structural analysis and engineering design.
  • Support clients in developing practical and innovative bridge solutions.
  • Manage workloads, resources and project priorities to ensure successful delivery.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections and technical assessments where required.
  • Drive improvements to engineering processes, standards and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with UK and international design standards and codes.
  • Provide technical oversight and engineering support for bridge installation and deconstruction activities, promoting safe design principles, effective risk management and compliance with relevant legislation, including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).

About You

You will be a qualified Civil or Structural Engineer with significant experience in steel structures, bridge engineering or infrastructure projects.

You will have a proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

You will be comfortable balancing technical leadership with team development, client engagement and project delivery.

You will have a strong understanding of structural design, engineering governance, UK design standards and CDM responsibilities, together with the ability to provide clear technical direction across multiple concurrent projects.

Essential

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in steel structure design and fabrication.
  • Experience leading engineering teams within infrastructure, bridge or heavy construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles, load calculations and finite element analysis.
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes, BS standards and engineering design governance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Practical experience of delivering structural engineering projects within the infrastructure, construction or bridge engineering sectors.
  • Good understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM) and the responsibilities of designers under the legislation.
  • Experience managing engineering inputs across multiple projects from concept design through to construction and handover.
  • Proven leadership capability with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with a focus on continuous development.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
