The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Section Engineer to join a major heavy civil engineering project based near Bridgwater. The scheme is well underway and offers long-term continuity of work through to 2027/28, making it an excellent opportunity for a contractor looking for stability on a flagship project.
This is a large, complex scheme comprising multiple sections of work, delivering genuine variety and technical challenge throughout the programme.
The Project
The project includes a broad range of heavy civil engineering elements, including:
- Large reinforced concrete structures
- Sheet piling
- Major earthworks
- River realignments and diversions
- Bridges and viaducts
This is a technically demanding environment with plenty of scope to stay challenged and engaged over the long term.
The Role
As Section Engineer, you will support the delivery of works across your designated section, working closely with site management and subcontractors. Key responsibilities will include:
- Setting out and monitoring works
- Checking and supporting Site Engineers
- Quality assurance and compliance
- Health & Safety management
- Coordinating and managing subcontractors
- Attending and contributing to as-built meetings
- Ordering materials and managing site requirements
All required kit and equipment will be provided by the client.
About You
We are looking for experienced Site or Section Engineers with a strong background in heavy civil engineering. Suitable experience may include:
- Major highways projects
- Large RC structures (bridges, viaducts, etc.)
- Water or wastewater treatment works
- Flood alleviation schemes
- Major earthworks
You will also bring:
- A degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
- Proven experience on heavy civils projects including earthworks, RC structures, marine works or river diversions
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to commute to the Bridgwater area
- Full UK driving licence
- Right to live and work in the UK without sponsorship
Rate & Package
Β£350 β Β£375 per day (plus holiday pay), depending on experience. Long-term contract on a major infrastructure scheme. All site equipment provided.
