Associate Civil Engineer (Aviation)

We are excited to be working with a major engineering practice who have an urgent requirement for an Associate Civil Engineer specialising in Aviation to join their growing team. The role offers you a chance to contribute to a wide variety of aviation infrastructure projects while enjoying a flexible working environment. You will be part of a dynamic team where you will be able to expand your expertise, manage exciting projects, and lead a talented design team.
This role offers a unique opportunity for an individual to progress within a high-performing aviation infrastructure team, renowned for its expertise across all aviation sectors. You will report directly to the Associate Director and take on the responsibility of managing a skilled design team.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with fellow Associates, especially in the Airfield Ground Lighting team
- Engaging with architectural and building services teams within the aviation sector
- Acting as the primary point of contact for airport and contractor clients
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring they remain on schedule and within budget
- Developing design programmes, specifications, and reports, and monitoring progress closely
- Assisting in the preparation of fee proposals, tender submissions, and project interviews
To succeed in this role, you should bring a strong background in civil engineering with a focus on aviation infrastructure. Ideal candidates will have experience in:
- Civil engineering and pavement design for airfields and highways
- Familiarity with airfield infrastructure and live airport environments
- Proven project management experience, particularly in the design and build sector
- Experience managing cross-disciplinary teams of engineers and CAD technicians
- Expertise with Civil 3D and drainage design
- A solid understanding of construction materials used in airfield infrastructure
In addition, candidates with the following will stand out:
- Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and extensive design experience
- Hands-on experience with aviation infrastructure design standards (CAP 168, EASA, ICAO, military standards)
- Knowledge of airside operations and the operational aspects of airports
- Expertise in pavement design using industry standards such as DMG27 and FAA (e.g. FAARFIELD)
- An understanding of Airfield Ground Lighting and other essential airport infrastructure services
- Experience with NEC suite of contracts and preparation of tender documentation
- A passion for mentoring and developing team members
