We are seeking an experienced and passionate
Head of Engagement whowill play a key part of ICE’s Lifestyle and Community Services senior team.
Engagement is at the heart of everything we do, and this role exists to make sure it works - everywhere, and at scale.
As our Head of Engagement, you will
- Support the Engagement Director to ensure the successful delivery of all community services and contracts across the UK, with accountability for ensuring service referral pathways are at the right volume, and the right demographic mix, in every contract area.
- Lead the team of regionally based engagement, partnership and community specialists, helping them build engagement plans that reflect both their local communities and the wider systems their service sits within to meet the needs of the contracts.
- Ensure that ICE and its services are embedded within local systems and partnerships, so that we become a genuinely connected, trusted and enduring part of the health and care landscape in every area we operate, not just a provider.
- Work closely with contract performance and data teams to be able to identify early any issues and build mitigation plans.
- Work closely with ICE Exec team to ensure service engagement, communications and service strategies are delivered, driving engagement and cohesiveness across all specialisms of the organisation, breaking down silos and building the culture of One ICE across all services and teams.
- Support the development of new business and tenders, representing the engagement specalism in bids and mobilisations or new services and programmes.
- Support internal comms and the promotion of ICE across the health domain nationally, working alongside the Engagement Director and the Marketing Team on campaign strategy and execution.
This role needs you to have the ability to travel independently where required and so you will need to be able to drive and own a car as the role involves work in various community settings.
You will also be required to travel to the Coventry office from time to time for training and team meetings.
The role will be expected to support evening and weekend events/activities, with advanced planning and notice.
A DBS is required for the role which the company will pay for.
Salary Range: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum.

Key elements of the day-to-day role
- Strategic Engagement, Communications & Growth
- Work with the Engagement Director to set and track referral targets — by volume and by demographic — for every contract, and put in place the plans, tools and support needed to hit them.
- Strategically support Strategic Engagement Leads and service-specific Engagement Leads to identify and reach areas of greatest need and the most deprived communities, to reduce health inequalities at national scale.
- Use data to identify where referral pathways or partner connections are weak, and broker the relationships needed to fix them.
- Work as a key member of the ICE strategy board, helping to drive engagement and cohesiveness across all specialisms of the organisation.
- Build and sustain excellent connections across every system ICE operates in, exploring opportunities to work with other partners on pieces of work aligned to ICE's mission, vision and values.
- Represent ICE at system-wide strategic meetings, commissioner forums and local partner meetings across the UK, ensuring the ICE offer is understood, valued and embedded.
- Champion the voice of local Engagement Leads at a national level, and the national ICE strategy at a local level.
- Great in-person and telephone manner, strong in-person communication skills, and confident with digital networking.
- Robust, UK-wide understanding of all aspects of ICE and the contracts it delivers.
- Line manage, coach and develop the national team of Engagement Leads, holding them to account for engagement plans and referral performance.
- Own reporting on engagement and referral statistics — numbers and demographics — across all contracts, and use it to drive decisions, not just describe them.
- Support the development of tenders and new business opportunities.
- Participate in and enforce all programmes and policies relating to ICE Healthy Lifestyles, evaluations and career development planning.
- Reinforce the ICE approach and values consistently, wherever you're working.
- Represent ICE to existing and potential clients and commissioners, building relationships from initial contact through to long‑term growth and profitability.
- Work with other teams across ICE to develop promotion, planning and execution.
- You must be a car driver with access to a car and able to travel extensively across the UK.
- Deputise for the Engagement Director where required.
- Line manage and performance-manage the national Engagement Lead team, including delegated management responsibilities.
- Understand the ICE team code and act at all times within this code and the values of the organisation.
- Carry out such duties as may reasonably be requested of the role holder from time to time.
- Think outside the box, look beyond health for solutions that might help, network relentlessly, and suggest and enact improvements within and beyond your own role to make better happen — for every contract, everywhere ICE works.
Essential existing skills/experience
- You will live in the West Midlands area.
- Significant experience in a senior engagement, partnerships or business development role, ideally spanning multiple contracts, sites or regions
- Proven track record of driving referral generation and hitting demographic/reach targets
- Line management and performance management of geographically dispersed teams
- Sound management of a wide range of stakeholders, including commissioners and system leaders
- Good marcomms knowledge
- Management of large data sets, including referral and demographic reporting
- Management of long-term projects and systems at scale
- Working in or with Statutory Sector partners, specifically health and social care
- Influencing others, including at a senior/system level
- Presenting to groups and individuals of all audiences
- Confident using Microsoft 365 and data/CRM systems; able to analyse and report performance and engagement activity.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and an understanding of barriers to access faced by different communities.
- IT literate and able to confidently use online methods of communication. You will also need to have a good eye for detail, and you will be accurate with data input and reporting.
