A newly established subsidiary and rapidly growing O&M provider is seeking a Business Unit Director with MD capability to lead its Thermal Operations & Maintenance division in Ireland. With major contracts secured and a core team in place, this is a key leadership appointment to drive performance and scale the business into a multi-technology energy platform across Ireland, UK and Europe.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Group Board, you will take full accountability for the leadership, safety, operational performance, and commercial success of the O&M business unit. You will oversee thermal generation assets while executing a strategic transition into next-generation technologies including BESS, solar PV, CHP, hydrogen-ready systems, and hybrid energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high asset availability, reliability, and efficiency across thermal plants
- Oversee outages, maintenance strategies, and technical integrity programmes
- Hold full P&L responsibility, driving profitability and commercial discipline
- Oversee long-term service agreements (LTSA), O&M contracts, and performance guarantees
- Manage client relationships at senior level, including contract governance and renewals
- Build and lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering and operations team
- Develop capability across both traditional thermal systems and emerging energy technologies
Candidate Profile
- Extensive leadership experience in thermal power generation (CCGT, CHP, steam plant, engines, biomass, WtE)
- Strong technical expertise in high-energy plant and associated systems
- Proven commercial acumen with P&L ownership and O&M contract management
- Experience leading multi-site operations and complex technical teams
- Strong understanding of regulatory environments (COMAH, IED, environmental compliance)
- Exposure to energy transition technologies (BESS, PV, hybrid systems, hydrogen readiness)
