Assistant Contracts Surveyor | Hackney, London

£35,000- £40,000 + Benefits

Role Summary:

Support the Contracts Surveyor in efficiently managing surveying functions on allocated projects, ensuring cost control, risk management, and maximising profit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with Estimating, Purchasing, and Project teams to procure sub-contract packages and advise on market intelligence.
  • Review and analyse contract documents, including BREEAM and Section 106 clauses; conduct feasibility and risk assessments.
  • Assist in selecting and managing subcontractors, preparing payments, valuations, and cost appraisals.
  • Support site management with variations, day works, cost control, and architect instructions.
  • Maintain accurate project records on Gateway, ensuring traceability and compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, design teams, and stakeholders, identifying opportunities for future work.
  • Participate in CPD, industry events, and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Experience:

  • 4 years in surveying, planning, and project coordination.
  • 2 years managing and co-ordinating project work packages.
  • Proven experience negotiating contracts with multi-disciplinary subcontractors and managing client expectations.
  • Experience preparing reports for senior management and clients.

Desirable Experience:

  • Conducting appraisals, technical knowledge, contract law awareness, reading architectural drawings, and knowledge of health & safety regulations.
  • Experience in construction or fit-out companies.

Education / Qualifications:

  • Degree in Surveying / Quantity Surveying (RICS or CIOB recognised).
  • CSR or CSCS Card, COSHH Accreditation.
  • Desirable: Postgraduate surveying qualification, RICS Chartered membership, CIOB Accreditation, SSTS/SMTS Card, First Aid certification.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
