Our Client is looking to hire a design manager that will ensure our Clients core values are achieved of Zero Incidents through the delivery of a safe design aligned with CDM 2015 regulations delivering a project that is safe to construct and maintain, supports Zero Defects through focussed management of the design procedures delivering a design that is validated formally via reviewable design data (RDD) and that Zero Delays occur through careful attention and monitoring of an integrated design programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Have input into the selection of the design team.
  • Agree the design team’s responsibilities, scope of services and deliverables.
  • Agree tender and construction programme with the design team.
  • Hold and minute regular design meetings and involve critical sub-contractors as necessary.
  • Advise on the selection of specialist sub-contractors and sub-consultants.
  • Obtain fees for all specialist consultants and sub-consultants.
  • Consider alternative building methods, sub-contractor and materials.
  • Consider and resolve all statutory requirements.
  • Review and co-ordinate package interfaces.
  • Assist in the production of the Contractors Proposals.
  • Attend selection interview when required.
  • Produce and maintain a Risk & Opportunity Schedule.
  • Produce and maintain tender Query Schedule.
  • Review EiR document and ensure compliance with BIM requirements.
  • Ensure a Pre-BEP is in place where necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with the ‘Designed for Excellence’ design procedures.

Experience & Skills

  • Understand the different Client procurement routes.
  • Be able to manage a full design team and oversee design manager and design coordinators.
  • Experience of working at pre-construction stage.
  • Understanding of D&B contracts.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Experience of site/contract procedures.
  • Ability to organise, plan, programme and manage workloads.
  • Good working knowledge of Building Regulations and Planning Permission procedures.
  • Time management.
  • Be able to use Microsoft Word / Excel / PowerPoint (Intermediate).
  • Be able to use View Point for Projects (4Projects).
  • BIM project procedures.

Required Training

  • Degree in construction related role.
  • Minimum twelve years construction industry experience.

  • CDM awareness.
  • H&S training – IOSH / SSMSTS.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • MEP for non-MEP managers.
  • Revit software training.
