Senior Manager, International Tax, Advisory, Projects

This is a Senior Manager position reporting directly to the Head of Tax with a varied and wide range of responsibility, including front office tax advisory for the global markets, commodities and investment banking businesses, specialist tax advisory and support to internal functions to ensure that appropriate arrangements are in place to meet the bank’s international tax transparency and compliance agenda including those arising as a result of various OECD/EU/local Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) and anti-avoidance initiatives, working with the Head of Tax and the business on Transfer Pricing compliance and providing tax input into various business and group projects and initiatives.

What you'll be doing

Tax division responsibilities include

  • Ensuring accurate identification, management, measurement, control and reporting of corporate income tax and indirect tax risks.
  • Owning and managing the bank’s relationship with global tax authorities.
  • Managing the Group’s corporate income tax and indirect tax compliance position.
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of corporate income tax and indirect tax charges for the purposes of all financial statements and tax-related financial disclosures to tax authorities, regulators and investors.
  • Providing the Business Units with accurate and timely tax advice in relation to their business activities and acting as a control function in the review of new businesses / products and structured transactions.
  • Review and approval of all new products and business initiatives with a view to identifying, assessing and, where appropriate, implementing measures to manage the associated direct tax compliance requirements and mitigate direct tax risks (financial and reputational).
  • Sustain effective partnerships between the Tax function, the Business and other internal \"clients\" with tax touchpoints (such as Compliance, Legal, Operations, HR, Finance) to ensure the delivery of value-adding tax advice, subject matter expertise and risk governance.
  • Liaising with international network of external advisors where required, interpreting/implementing/challenging their advice where necessary and obtaining opinions in line with internal tax risk policies where relevant.
  • Legal advisory work in relation to ISDAs, GMSLAs, loan agreements.
  • Special Projects
  • Work with Head of Tax and/or Senior Managers in various projects and initiatives across the ICBCS Group including one off transactions, structural change and legal entity restructuring, mergers, acquisitions, and new tax legislation and requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with UK tax law and guidance, and ICBCS tax policies.

Recent legislative issues considered include Pillar 2, MDR, Prevention of Fraud, and International Controlled Transactions Schedule (ICTS).

  • Assist, from the global markets, commodities and investment banking perspective, with the drafting, review and implementation of transfer pricing policies and documentation across the Bank and Group entities.
  • Engage as required with key internal stakeholders such as Finance and Treasury and Front office to ensure they understand and are appropriately implementing the Bank’s transfer pricing policies.
  • Engage with key external stakeholders such as auditors and HMRC and provide assurance to them as to the adequacy of the Bank’s Transfer Pricing policies, implementation and documentation.
  • Provide specialist transfer pricing support to the New Product Process where required.
  • Client tax reporting
  • Prepare and submit CRS and FATCA returns to HMRC annually, along with interest reporting (BBSI return).
  • Work closely with CMU, Operations, IT and Compliance departments to ensure all FATCA and CRS returns are correctly filed on time in each relevant jurisdiction.
  • Provide tax support to internal teams handling on-boarding / KYC with respect to FATCA / CRS classification of new clients.

  • CIMA/ACCA/ACA/CTA or equivalent accounting or tax qualification.
  • Experience of working in Investment Banking and/or Commodities would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of emerging markets preferable.
