Job Description

Maintenance Engineer (Canning)

Reporting to – Engineering Manager

Salary: Negotiable (depending on experience)

Hours: Monday – Thursday (flexibility may be needed)

Type: Permanent

Main Purpose:

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining, operating, and improving the canning line to ensure optimal performance, product

quality, and safety, whilst also providing support to the bottling lines. This role is vital in supporting high-volume beverage production and ensuring equipment uptime and efficiency.

Duties:

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high-speed canning and bottling lines including filling, seaming, and packaging equipment.
  • Monitor line performance (OEE) and lead efforts to reduce downtime and improve productivity.
  • Perform routine maintenance, corrective repairs, and equipment changeovers to meet production schedules.
  • Ensure all equipment operates within food safety and quality standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP).
  • Work with Quality Assurance to ensure can integrity, fill levels, carbonation, and labelling meet specifications.
  • Collaborate with Production and Engineering teams to implement process improvements and new technologies.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and downtime records using CMMS systems.
  • Train production staff on canning equipment operation and best practices.
  • Adhere to all health & safety regulations and support a safe working environment.

Requirements:

  • Degree or technical diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in beverage or food manufacturing, in canning (& bottling desirable)
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with canning line components (e.g., depalletisers, rinsers, fillers, seamers, pasteurizers, labellers, case packers).
  • Experience with carbonated drinks or aseptic canning processes
  • Working knowledge of quality and safety standards in food/beverage manufacturing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

Desirable

  • Experience with PLCs, automation systems, and SCADA interfaces.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
