My client is looking for a Senior Optical engineer, focused on fibre optic sub-system development. The Senior Optical Engineer would cover high-power optical amplifiers and photonic systems. This is an exciting opportunity across R&D, prototyping and early-stage production. This is an onsite position based in Devon.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of fibre-optic sub-systems, including high-power optical amplifiers
- Manage small project teams and deliver programmes on time and within budget
- Work across multidisciplinary teams including optical, mechanical and electronic engineering
- Support prototype build, assembly and testing of fibre-optic and opto-electronic systems
- Carry out fibre splicing, system integration and lab-based validation
- Develop and execute test plans for functional and environmental verification
- Engage directly with customers on specifications, results and technical direction
- Deliver technical reviews and produce clear project documentation
- Build internal collaboration across engineering and commercial teams
Requirements
- Degree or PhD in Physics, Engineering or related field with optics or photonics focus
- Industry experience in optics, photonics or fibre-optic systems
- Experience developing fibre-optic or laser-based products
- Strong knowledge of optical amplifiers and fibre-optic technologies
- Hands-on experience building and testing optical or opto-electronic systems
- Experience leading projects or small teams
- Ability to manage technical and commercial aspects of development work
- Strong communication skills with experience presenting to customers
