This is an opportunity for a Graduate Layout Engineer to join a stable and expanding Semiconductor company based within the North East’s emerging semiconductor cluster, close to Durham. Our client is a very successful Semiconductor manufacturer focused on compound semiconductors — advanced chips used in high-performance and mission-critical systems. Their work is essential for so many products within sectors including defence, telecommunications, aerospace and satellite communications.
They currently seek a motivated Graduate Layout Engineer to join their team which provides design support services for all aspects of generation of MMIC layout artwork from development of PDKs to the procurement of mask sets. Here there is excellent scope for training on the job, working alongside experienced engineers. The role will involve performing layout activities and mask procurement for internal and external customers, as well as developing and maintaining Process Design Kits (PDKs) including design rules, and DRC/LVS decks.
What is needed for this role?
- A BSc / MSc degree within Electronic Engineering is essential, together with two technical prerequisites:
- Hands-on layout experience (either IC layout or PCB layout)
- Scripting experience (Python / JavaScript / Bash) for automation of routine tasks
The Graduate Layout Engineer will be curious, keen to learn, and able to apply new knowledge. Any device design experience would be useful, but by no means essential. Candidates must also be eligible to work in the UK (visa sponsorship cannot be provided).
