My client is seeking a Principal Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Engineer in the UK to work on the design and development of next‑generation high‑speed photonic ICs for advanced optical systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and design of high-speed PICs for optical communications and sensing
- Develop and optimise photonic devices (e.g., modulators, detectors, waveguides) for high‑bandwidth operation
- Perform modelling, simulation, and layout of integrated photonic circuits
- Work closely with electronics, packaging, and systems teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers within the photonics team
Requirements
- PhD or MSc in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Significant experience designing photonic integrated circuits
- Strong understanding of high-speed optical device physics and photonic design tools
- Track record of delivering complex engineering projects
Desirable
- Experience with silicon photonics or heterogeneous integration platforms
- Knowledge of high-speed optical transceivers or coherent communication systems
