We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager for our client within the electronics / semiconductor industry. This role is critical in ensuring world-class electronics manufacturing capability, driving continuous improvement, and supporting both current production and new product introduction. You will combine strong technical expertise in electronics manufacturing with proven leadership skills to deliver operational excellence, cost control, and capability development.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a thorough understanding of electronics industry best practices for the manufacture of Printed Circuit Assemblies (PCA’s) and electrical & electronic assemblies.
- Plan and manage capital expenditure, ensuring timely equipment replacement and investment in new manufacturing technologies.
- Set, manage, and achieve manufacturing OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) targets, providing timely support to manufacturing and test cells as required.
- In conjunction with the BPI Lead, drive the continued development and adoption of VTPS (Vacuum Technique Production System).
- Strengthen the Eastbourne PCA Manufacturing Engineering organisation through strong leadership, ensuring effective recruitment, objective setting, competency management, and organisational development.
- Manage cost-centre budgets and headcount, ensuring forecasts are agreed, spend is controlled, and performance is reported against targets.
- Support the Operations Manager in the ongoing management and development of the Eastbourne site, contributing to site OGSM (Objectives, Goals, Strategies and Measures).
- Work closely with NPI teams to ensure appropriate Manufacturing Engineering resources are deployed and manufacturability standards are consistently applied across all teams.
- Ensure a standardised approach to all NPI projects, including routing, timing, DFMEA, PFMEA, and build standards.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Thorough knowledge and hands-on experience of implementing lean manufacturing.
- Significant experience developing or supporting electronics manufacturing processes.
- Strong understanding of surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole assembly processes, methods, and equipment.
- Thorough understanding of electrical and electronic components and their packaging.
- Proven experience in a technical leadership and people management role.
- Strong coaching and mentoring capability.
- Robust understanding of PFMEA and DFMEA methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills with strong spoken and written English.
- Solid understanding of MRP systems, ideally SAP.
- Competent in the use of manufacturing and engineering tools and systems.
