I’m working with a specialist RF and antenna technology company based in Belfast that develops advanced antenna solutions for body‑centric, space‑constrained wireless applications, including wearables, medical devices and next‑generation IoT products.

The role

Principal Antenna Engineer – taking a leading technical role within the engineering team. This position offers genuine technical ownership, hands‑on design responsibility and influence across R&D, product development and customer integration.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the design, simulation and optimisation of advanced antenna systems using EM tools such as CST Microwave Studio or equivalent.
  • Develop antenna solutions for body‑centric and RF‑challenging environments.
  • Design and evaluate RF front‑end elements including matching networks, filters and LNAs.
  • Perform antenna characterisation and validation using VNAs, anechoic chambers and other RF test equipment.
  • Support manufacturing and assembly process development to improve yield, repeatability and robustness.
  • Provide senior‑level technical support for customer integration, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
  • Collaborate across R&D, mechanical and manufacturing teams to deliver production‑ready designs.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to IP or patent activity where appropriate.

Required background

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Degree (2:1 or above) in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Physics or a related discipline.
  • MSc or PhD in a relevant field (strongly preferred).
  • Experience in antenna or RF engineering.
  • Strong grounding in antenna theory, EM propagation and simulation‑driven design.
  • Hands‑on experience with antenna prototyping (PCB, flex, LDS, ceramic or similar).
  • Confident using RF measurement and test equipment.

Desirable experience

  • Wearable, implantable or on‑body antenna design.
  • UWB or short‑range wireless systems.
  • Wireless SoCs and embedded RF platforms.
  • Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
  • Python or MATLAB for data analysis or simulation post‑processing.
  • Customer‑facing technical or integration experience.
