My client based in Cambridge is seeking an Optical Engineer with strong industry experience in geometric and reflective waveguide design to support the development of advanced augmented-reality (AR) waveguide systems. This role is suited to an engineer with a proven commercial track record who can take ownership of waveguide design work and contribute directly to the delivery of a new product currently under development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and develop geometric and reflective optical waveguides for AR applications
  • Perform hands-on optical modelling, simulation, optimisation, and validation
  • Translate system requirements into manufacturable optical designs
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of optical engineers on product development
  • Support prototype evaluation, performance analysis, and iterative improvement

Required experience:

  • Non-negotiable industry experience in a commercial optical engineering environment
  • Demonstrable hands-on waveguide design experience
  • Evidence of participation in at least 1–2 full design cycles (concept through validation/production support)
  • Strong background in optical design tools and practical implementation
