To support our progress, we are currently recruiting for a Health, Safety and Environmental Coordinator to join our team at our Barnwell factory. This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You will support risk assessment writing, contractor management, audits and inductions, incident investigation, and manage SHE KPI’s such as safety concerns and action close‑out. The position requires a strong engagement with employees at all levels, feeding valuable information into daily and weekly management meetings and spending time on the production lines to understand the process. While some administrative duties are involved, a good portion of the day will be hands‑on. The role provides exposure to group functions and involves implementing group projects at site level in line with business targets.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with all Business stakeholders to ensure our Safety Health & Environment Strategy is delivered and we comply with all relevant legislation at all times.
  • Ensuring all incidents and non‑compliance's are accurately recorded on the SHE management system, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to facilitate effective incident closure.
  • Ensuring short‑term containment and long‑term solutions are implemented to prevent re‑occurrence.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the SHE advisor for any site specific matters where required.
  • Facilitate the site in developing risk assessments, SSOP’s and completion of any other relevant procedures.
  • Manage the sites tier boards ensuring they are up to date and accurate information is displayed.
  • Deliver communication and training through the use of Tool Box Talks, regular meetings, best practice and safety alerts.
  • Ensure all H&S records are stored, maintained and reviewed in line with Ibstock PLC requirements.
  • Proactively collate and analyse data, using problem solving tools to formulate action plans that will reduce risks of injury and illness to employees and workers.
  • Identify areas of best practice on sites and work closely with the SHE advisors to cascade information throughout the group.
  • Provide accurate, timely and technical advice to colleagues in resolving H&S issues and reducing environmental impact.
  • Support Factory Management Teams on the formulation of site specific SHE action plans and audit progress to ensure they are delivered.
  • Measure and report improvements to the Safety Health & Environment Management Systems.
  • Facilitate the review of any site specific procedures and assessments in line with group SHE requirements.
  • Continuously improve site H&S performance through accurate measurement and monitoring of specific KPI’s.
  • Implement new initiatives introduced by the group H&S department as per the H&S roadmap.
  • Facilitate H&S committees on site in line with the divisional communications matrix, ensuring effective rollout and monitoring of minutes and action plans.
  • Arrange occupational health monitoring (including noise, air contamination and Hand Arm Vibration-HAV) in line with procedures.
  • Influence safe employee behaviours through audits, inspections, health and safety surveys and behavioural observation.
  • Ensure compliance with any environmental permits or licenses issued by enforcing authorities.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (to be achieved within 12 months).
  • IEMA Foundation course in Environmental Management (Desired).
  • Membership of IOSH (Desired).
  • Excellent communication skills, including delivery of training packages to an audience.
  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Numerate and literate.
  • Effective collaborator able to influence a wide cross‑section of people through passion and encouragement to consider safer ways of working.
  • Flexible – work individually or as part of a team.
