What You’ll Be Doing:

You’ll learn how to:

  • Read blueprints and technical drawings to determine mould dimensions
  • Plan, lay out, and construct wooden moulds and panels
  • Fit and fasten wooden parts using glue, nails, dowels, and screws
  • Shape, plane, shave, and sand wood surfaces using hand tools
  • Operate woodworking machinery such as band saws, mitre saws, and table saws
  • Finish moulds with lacquer, wax, or paint
  • Maintain and repair existing moulds and patterns
  • Inventory tools and materials, and order supplies as needed
  • Compute dimensions, volume, and weights of moulds
  • Estimate costs for mould production
  • Maintain detailed mould and pattern records
