The Client: Our client is a well-established and award-winning MEP Building Services consultancy seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team of 15 engineers. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a consultancy that offers the perfect balance — large enough to provide stability, technical depth and strong project exposure, yet small enough to genuinely recognise and value its people as individuals. The business delivers high-quality mechanical and electrical design solutions across a diverse portfolio, including Healthcare and Education projects, with a strong reputation for technical excellence and client relationships.
The Role: As an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical building services design from concept through to completion. You will work closely with senior engineers and directly with clients, contributing to technically challenging and rewarding projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing mechanical design concepts and detailed design solutions
- Producing and reviewing design briefs based on client or senior engineer requirements
- Taking responsibility for technical and financial decisions on assigned projects
- Undertaking site surveys and preparing detailed mechanical condition and compliance reports
- Ensuring compliance with British Standards, Building Regulations and Codes of Practice
- Carrying out energy assessments and evaluating system performance
- Coordinating with other disciplines and understanding cross-discipline design parameters
- Assisting in the preparation of drawings using CAD
- Managing workload effectively to meet programme deadlines
- Exercising independent technical judgement with limited supervision
About You: We’re looking for a motivated and technically capable engineer who is ready to take the next step in their career. You will have:
- A Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (HNC/HND with strong design experience will also be considered)
- Experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment
- Good knowledge of British Standards and Building Regulations
- Experience using design software such as Hevacomp, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office
- Strong client communication and relationship skills
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
