We’re expanding our team at our Newhaven Branch and are looking for a dependable Yard Operative/Van Driver to help us continue delivering excellent service to our trade and retail customers.
The Role
We are looking for a full-time Yard Operative / Van Driver based at our Newhaven branch. You will be responsible for the delivery of products to customers, with key accountability for ensuring the quality and timing of service is first class. To provide excellent customer service by safely and efficiently managing the yard, loading/unloading materials, and making timely deliveries to customers. You will be the face of the branch when on the road, ensuring orders are delivered accurately and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist customers in locating and loading building materials.
- Safely load/unload goods from supplier vehicles and customer collections using forklifts (if licensed).
- Maintain yard organisation and cleanliness, ensuring materials are stored safely and correctly.
- Carry out regular stock checks and report shortages or damages.
- Follow all health & safety procedures, including PPE requirements.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience in a similar role within a builders’ merchant, construction, or trade environment (preferred but not essential).
- Good knowledge of building materials and products (desirable).
- Forklift licence (counterbalance) desirable but training may be provided.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform manual handling duties.
The Hours
Week 1: Monday to Friday 07:00-17:00
Week 2: Monday to Friday 07:00-17:00, Saturday 08:00-12:00
