We have an exciting internal opportunity for a Counter Sales & Yard Operative to join our High Wycombe branch. This varied role combines customer-facing counter sales responsibilities with hands-on yard duties, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working with customers, supporting colleagues, and contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of a busy branch. About the Role
- Counter Sales Responsibilities
- Building positive relationships with customers face-to-face, over the phone, and via email
- Dealing with customer sales enquiries and processing orders accurately and efficiently
- Providing advice on products, pricing, and availability
- Identifying opportunities to offer alternative products and additional solutions to meet customer needs
- Delivering excellent customer service to encourage repeat business
- Supporting the branch team in achieving and exceeding sales targets
- Assisting with shop merchandising, stock replenishment, and general branch duties where required
- Yard Responsibilities
- Assisting customers in the yard safely and professionally
- Picking, preparing, and checking customer orders
- Loading and unloading vehicles safely and efficiently
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe yard environment
- Supporting stock management and inventory accuracy
- Operating a Forklift Truck (training can be provided where required)
About You
We're looking for a positive, customer-focused team member who is keen to learn and contribute to the success of the branch. You'll ideally have:
- Experience within a customer service, sales, warehouse, distribution, builders' merchant, retail, or construction-related environment
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Confidence dealing with customers face-to-face and over the telephone
- A positive, team-oriented approach
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work both indoors and outdoors
- A willingness to learn new skills and develop product knowledge
Desirable, but not essential:
- Builders' merchant or construction product knowledge
- Forklift Truck (FLT) licence
- Previous builders' merchant experience would be advantageous, but full training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
Working Hours
Week 1: Monday to Friday: 7:30am to 5:15pm
Week 2: Monday to Friday: 7:30am to 5:15pm, Saturday: 8:00am to 12:00pm
