In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for functional, regression, integration, performance, and API testing.
  • Build automation frameworks using industry-standard tools and modern programming languages.
  • Develop optimized test scenarios and ensure comprehensive test coverage aligned to acceptance criteria.
  • Create automation for test environment setup, test execution, test data management, and environment validation.
  • Integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines, working closely with DevOps to enable continuous testing.
  • Contribute to quality engineering practices aligned with Agile, DevOps, and containerized delivery models.
  • Monitor test execution results, troubleshoot failures, and provide actionable insights to development teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product quality, identify risks, and advocate for automated testing best practices.
  • Participate in requirement analysis, sprint planning, and backlog grooming to ensure quality is built in from the start.
  • Drive adoption of automation tools, frameworks, and best practices across teams.
  • Ensure that Best Practices are being followed as part of the Test Delivery in the SCRUM Teams (e.g., Test Estimation, Test Coverage, Test Traceability, Defect Management, Test Evidencing and Test Closure).

Depending on experience:

  • Lead automation strategy for teams or accounts.
  • Mentor junior engineers in automation techniques and quality engineering practices.
  • Define and govern QA standards, tooling, and quality gates.
  • Engage with stakeholders, clients, and leadership to ensure quality alignment with business needs.

Required education: None

Preferred education: Bachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertise:

  • Experience with test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Appium, RestAssured, Postman).
  • Programming skills in languages such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or C#.
  • Experience building automation frameworks for UI, API, and integration testing.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, etc.).
  • Experience with Agile, DevOps practices, and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of test design techniques, debugging, and root cause analysis.
  • Experience with version control tools (Git) and code review practices.
  • Understanding of performance testing, security testing, or reliability engineering is a plus.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

Optional for higher levels:

  • Technical leadership, coaching, QA strategy definition, stakeholder engagement.

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personal Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NVS) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).

Preferred technical and professional experience:

  • Exposure to contemporary trends like Agile, DevOps, and Containers, with the ability to align testing automation with these methodologies.
  • Test Automation Optimization: Experience working with various test automation tools and technologies to optimize testing processes and ensure efficient software delivery.
  • Delivery Automation Understanding: Exposure to integrating testing automation into overall delivery automation, with the ability to collaborate and ensure alignment with organisational goals and methodologies.
