Your Role And Responsibilities
As an IBM Consulting Architect, you will act as a trusted technical advisor to our clients, shaping architecture decisions that enable complex business and technology transformation. You will operate across the lifecycle – from early discovery and design through delivery and transition – providing architectural leadership to ensure solutions are coherent, fit‑for‑purpose, and aligned to client objectives. You will work closely with clients, delivery teams, and partners, bringing industry insight and structured architectural thinking to complex environments. This role requires strong stakeholder engagement, the ability to operate in multi‑supplier or ‘rainbow’ teams, and confidence guiding teams through ambiguity, trade‑offs, and change.

- Define application and technical architectures aligned to modern development, integration, and delivery practices.
- Lead the design of application modernisation initiatives, including refactoring, re‑platforming, and cloud enablement.
- Provide hands‑on technical leadership to engineering teams, guiding design decisions and implementation approaches.
- Design and review application and integration patterns, APIs, and platform usage.
- Support non‑functional design considerations including performance, resilience, security, and scalability.
- Produce technical architecture artefacts, including HLDs, LLDs, interface designs, and technical standards.
- Collaborate with solution architects, platform teams, and security specialists to ensure cohesive outcomes.
- Support delivery assurance, troubleshooting, and technical risk resolution during implementation.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise
- Strong background as a Technical or Application Architect within complex delivery environments.
- Hands‑on experience with modern application stacks (e.g. Java, web technologies, mobile, APIs).
- Experience with cloud‑hosted application architectures and DevOps‑aligned delivery.
- Strong understanding of application integration and modern architectural patterns.
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, architects, and delivery leadership.
- Experience working within consulting or multi‑client delivery models.
Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
- Background in application modernisation or large‑scale delivery programmes.
- Exposure to hybrid cloud or platform‑based architectures.
- Experience coaching or mentoring senior engineers and tech leads.
- Familiarity with quality engineering, automation, or non‑functional design practices.
