As a Functional Quality Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring that high‑quality, reliable software is delivered for a major Public Sector programme. You will work closely with analysts, developers and stakeholders to validate requirements, execute functional tests and support the delivery of solutions that meet security, accessibility and compliance expectations typical of government environments. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and execution of functional and regression test plans for custom applications.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to clarify requirements, identify defects and support timely resolution.
  • Participate in defining test approaches and providing input on testing improvements.
  • Support test automation initiatives by identifying opportunities and working with automation specialists.
  • Communicate test results, risks and issues to project teams and stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
  • Awareness of containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and how testing fits within them.
  • Understanding of TDD or BDD principles from a functional testing perspective.
  • Basic understanding of security and data protection considerations in software development.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid right to work in the UK and be resident in the UK with continuous living for the last 5 years.
  • Experience working in Public Sector or similarly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG.
  • Exposure to test management tools commonly used in enterprise or government projects.
