Your Role At IBM

You will join as a Junior Management Consultant Apprentice in the Public Sector. The role involves working four days per week on a client-facing project and one day per week studying for the Junior Management Consultant apprenticeship on IBM’s programme, which is rated Strong by OFSTED.

Your Apprenticeship

IBM is an OFSTED Outstanding Employer provider. The apprenticeship combines in-person and online training, Action Learning Sets, digital badges, and the support of a dedicated early professional manager. It will equip you with skills in business environment and management consultancy, finance, project management, communication, team working, business analysis, client relationship building, personal management, IT technical capabilities, and report writing. Apprentices operate within IBM’s various business units, with opportunities to participate in networking, mentoring, and broader activities inside and outside of your role. You will have two managers: a task manager for your role and an early professional manager to help you maximise your apprenticeship experience.

Responsibilities

  • Project Management Support: assist management consultants in delivering projects, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Client Engagement: build relationships with clients and understand their business needs and challenges.
  • Data Analysis: analyze and interpret complex data to identify trends and insights informing business decisions.
  • Solution Development: develop and implement solutions, including process improvements and technology implementations.
  • Communication: convey complex ideas and recommendations to clients and stakeholders through written and verbal communication.
  • Team Collaboration: work with cross-functional teams to deliver projects and meet client needs.
  • Learning and Development: participate in training programs to enhance skills in AI, consulting methodologies, and technology trends.
  • Commercial Awareness: develop understanding of commercial principles and practices.

You will work within the Consulting Public Sector, building experience across healthcare, defence, and local government, and you will follow in the footsteps of apprentices who have progressed to senior roles.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

All apprenticeships are office-based (minimum 3 days a week if not on a client site); roles are not remote. You must live within commuting distance to one of our locations (London, Hursley near Winchester, Manchester). Mobility is required as roles are client-focused and may require travel and staying away from home during the week. Valid and eligible residency status and the right to work in England. Eligibility for Security Clearance. You must be authorised to work in the UK without sponsorship. Maths & English GCSE or equivalent (level 4 or above); a certificate of equivalency may be requested. Completed Further Education before starting at IBM. You cannot have already started or completed an apprenticeship or university course in a similar area.

We seek candidates with a keen interest in technology and curiosity about tech. Applications are welcome from candidates who have not studied technology, computer science, or STEM subjects at sixth form level.

Start Dates

We are looking for apprentices who will start on 22 June 2026, with a two-week induction. We cannot make exceptions to these start dates. Applications are encouraged as opportunities are popular. The intake for 2026 will close on 10 April if there are sufficient applications. You will need to complete a full application form within 48 hours.
