At IBM, our Project Executives excel by leading and coordinating the efforts of large complex project teams for overall performance, scope, cost, and deliverables. Our clients rely on timely and efficient management and oversight, and as Project Executive, you will drive the charge with project direction, overall coordination and management of activities, and performance management, providing direction to multiple Project Managers assigned to work under your direction.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • IBM Z is the World’s most powerful business platform. 68% of enterprise production workloads, 80% of structured enterprise data, and 55% of all enterprise transactions, including more than 50% of the back end transactions generated from mobile enterprise applications run on IBM Z.
  • IBM z Software Migration team is growing and seeking a Project Executive to oversee the delivery of software migration services to clients across North America.
  • As a Project Executive you will be responsible for the management of large complex projects being executed by various cross-functional teams as well as vendors and other internal & external resources to deliver on solutions and services.
  • You will do this by providing guidance and direction to multiple Product Managers, also assigned to the project.
  • You will interact closely with multiple teams and vendors to define the project parameters and to develop detailed project documentation to outline the project scope, business requirements, project plans, schedules and status.

What you will do:

  • Provide project management of large complex, multi-workstream software migration projects for clients on the IBM Z platform.
  • Provide business direction to other Project Managers who will also be assigned to the project.
  • Consult with management and review project proposals to determine goals, time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, and allocation of resources.
  • Analyze the need for and provide the necessary project management for project planning, execution (including the development of project plans).
  • Report on project activities, changes in scope, challenges and requirements to the leadership team as a strategic tool in keeping implementers and decision makers moving toward consistent, business or mission-focused goals and objectives.
  • Communicate with management internally and at the customer on ongoing status, milestones, and project risks.
  • Review and analyze process & procedures in order to find opportunities for improvement and increased efficiencies, then help drive implementation of these improvements.
  • Monitor, assess, and improve the effectiveness of program best practices, ensuring continual process and quality improvement with a primary focus on the client account.

Required technical and professional expertise:

  • At least ten years of technical project management experience.
  • PMP or PRINCE2 certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operations and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and communications skills.
  • Experience managing cross-functional technical teams, with overall responsibility for managing scope, cost, schedule, and contractual deliverables, which includes applying techniques for planning, tracking, change control, and risk management.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to organize competing priorities and adapt to change.

Preferred technical and professional experience:

  • IBM Z Mainframe experience.
  • Experience with IBM Z software products.
  • Experience doing application development on IBM Z, including programming languages like Cobol or PL/1 is a plus.
