Your role and responsibilities:

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer to join our growing cloud delivery team, supporting the design, development, and deployment of applications within secure, high-impact environments. This role sits within a consulting delivery model, working across client engagements where you will contribute hands-on, support junior team members, and help shape the technical direction of solutions.

The Role:

You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, working on modern applications spanning both front-end and back-end technologies, with exposure to cloud-based environments. Alongside hands-on development, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of smaller workstreams, contribute to technical decisions, and support the development of less experienced engineers within the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of full-stack applications.
  • Take ownership of smaller features or workstreams within wider delivery programmes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Support and mentor junior developers within the team.
  • Contribute to development standards, best practices, and technical direction.
  • Work within secure environments, ensuring quality, performance, and maintainability.

Required technical and professional expertise:

  • Strong full-stack development experience, including:
    • Front-end technologies (e.g. JavaScript, React or Angular, HTML, CSS).
    • Back-end development (e.g. Java/Spring Boot or Node.js).
  • Experience working with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP), ideally within enterprise or secure environments.
  • Experience using version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.
  • Strong problem-solving capability and ability to work through complex technical challenges.
  • Comfortable communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working within larger teams or delivery environments.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds. However, for you to be eligible for this role, you must have the valid right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we do not offer visa sponsorship and have no future plans to do so. You must be a resident in the UK and have been living continuously in the UK for the last 10 years. You must be able to hold or gain a UK government security clearance.

Preferred technical and professional experience:

  • Exposure to containerisation technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with microservices or event-driven architectures.
  • Understanding of cloud security and best practices.
  • Experience working in regulated or security-sensitive environments.

IBM is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal-opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, caste, genetics, pregnancy, disability, neurodivergence, age, veteran status, or other characteristics. IBM is also committed to compliance with all fair employment practices regarding citizenship and immigration status.

How to prepare for a job interview at IBM Computing

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If IBM Computing uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
