Your role and responsibilities:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Application Developer – AWS Cloud Full Stack to join our dynamic IBM team. The ideal candidate will bring proven expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-native applications on AWS, with hands-on experience delivering secure and scalable solutions for clients in the public sector and defence industries. This role requires deep technical proficiency in cloud architecture, software engineering best practices, and full-stack development within highly regulated environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure cloud applications on AWS, tailored to the needs of public sector and defence clients.
  • Develop full-stack applications using modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js) and backend technologies (Node.js, Java, Python, or similar).
  • Architect, implement, and optimise cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, and CloudFormation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IBM teams and client stakeholders to translate complex public sector and defence requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in DevOps, CI/CD, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Apply stringent security, compliance, and governance standards in line with defence and government regulations.
  • Optimise application performance, security, and reliability following industry and IBM best practices.
  • Mentor developers and provide technical leadership in AWS and full-stack development, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
  • Stay current with emerging AWS technologies, full-stack frameworks, and cloud architecture trends relevant to public sector and defence applications.

Assessment Centre:

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre hosted onsite at IBM Hursley on 3 December 2025. The Assessment Centre will provide an opportunity to meet IBM leaders, engage in technical discussions, and participate in collaborative exercises that reflect real-world challenges faced by our teams.

Required technical and professional expertise:

  • Experience in full-stack application development with expertise in AWS cloud services.
  • Strong proficiency in front-end frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Experience with backend technologies such as Node.js, Java, Python, or .NET.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, S3, API Gateway, DynamoDB, RDS, IAM, and CloudFormation/Terraform.
  • Proficiency in building RESTful APIs and microservices-based architectures or relevant domain specific architectures and patterns.
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of authentication, security best practices, and scalability in cloud environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced agile environment.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Preferred technical and professional experience:

  • AWS Certified Developer or Solutions Architect certification.
  • Experience with serverless architectures and event-driven design patterns.
  • Knowledge of GraphQL, WebSockets, or real-time data processing.
  • Familiarity with machine learning or data engineering on AWS.
