Purpose
As Quality Manager, you will be accountable for leading quality management across SP Transmission’s (SPT) Core, Strategic and HVDC portfolios, ensuring quality requirements, risks and obligations are translated into clear controls, governance arrangements and consistent delivery across the full project lifecycle. You will be responsible for translating business, regulatory and quality management system requirements into practical strategies, plans, standards, procedures and assurance arrangements that can be embedded into business as usual.
Reporting to the Head of Quality, Environment and IMS, you will lead quality capability through Lead Quality Advisors and wider specialist quality roles, set functional priorities, allocate internal and external resources and provide management oversight of quality performance, compliance, assurance, supplier performance, escalation and continuous improvement. You will play a key part in translating functional direction into practical delivery arrangements that support RIIO-T3 objectives, major capital investment and wider business commitments.
Responsibilities
- Leading the Quality function within the Quality, Environment and IMS Department for SPT Transmission Services, you will set clear direction, priorities, standards and expectations for quality delivery across relevant projects and portfolios.
- You will provide leadership, management and development to Lead Quality Advisors, Quality Advisors and associated specialist roles, ensuring the team structure, capability, performance and resource model support current and future business requirements.
- Owning the development, implementation, governance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management Framework, determining functional standards, assurance arrangements, controls and priorities for adoption across SPT.
- Setting the functional approach to Quality Assurance, audit, inspection and non-conformance management, ensuring proportionate governance, robust escalation routes and effective follow-up of significant risks, trends and systemic issues.
- Working closely with the wider business, translating business priorities, regulatory requirements and organisational risk into clear functional plans, objectives and improvement programmes.
- Leading the development and use of quality performance reporting, management information and trend analysis, ensuring outputs support management decision-making, business assurance and targeted improvement activity.
- Providing advice, challenge and influence to management teams, project leaders and key stakeholders on quality governance, compliance, risk, supplier performance and improvement priorities.
- Overseeing the effectiveness of supplier and contractor quality arrangements, ensuring significant concerns, recurring issues and performance risks are appropriately addressed.
- Representing the Quality function across internal management forums, Corporate stakeholders and other relevant parties, ensuring SPT requirements are understood and supported through the wider management system.
- Influencing Portfolio, Project Engineering, Construction, Procurement and Leadership teams, embedding quality expectations into Governance, Planning, Design, Procurement and Delivery decisions.
- Exercising management judgement on escalated quality matters, including the prioritisation of interventions, deployment of resources, management of risk and resolution of issues with wider business impact.
What you’ll bring
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Quality or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Significant experience in Quality management within an Engineering and Construction environment.
- Proven experience of leading specialist or multi-disciplinary teams, including performance management, capability development, workforce planning and resource prioritisation.
- Strong understanding of Quality and regulatory standards, with the ability to interpret requirements and translate them into effective business controls.
- Experience of setting direction for audit, assurance, governance and non-conformance processes within a complex operational environment.
- Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical capability, comfortable interpreting performance data and identifying systemic issues.
- Experience leading change, embedding new ways of working and delivering continuous improvement.
- Confidence in the use of Microsoft applications and relevant Quality and information management systems.
- Willingness to undertake occasional travel and short periods away from home, with flexibility to work outside standard hours when required.
