Role
Working within the Operation Risk team and reporting to the logistics manager, you will be responsible for the receiving, storing, picking and issuing of materials while maintaining accurate stock movements and ensuring a safe, clean, and organised warehouse environment. You will also provide support to the compliance testing engineer and wider operational risk team.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing and maintaining accurate inventory records for Transmission Operations materials, equipment, and strategic spare assets, ensuring critical resources are available to support network operations and emergency repairs.
- Operate robust goods receipt and dispatch processes, ensuring all stock movements are accurately recorded and fully traceable.
- Utilise SAP and manual inventory management systems to control stock levels, monitor material movements, and provide accurate inventory data to operational stakeholders.
- Receive, inspect, and clearly identify incoming materials, ensuring items are correctly labelled, recorded, and readily accessible.
- Safely load, unload, and move materials using appropriate mechanical handling equipment, ensuring compliance with company procedures and safe working practices.
- Carry out quality inspections of incoming goods to verify correct materials, quantities and condition of materials, resolving discrepancies where required.
- Coordinate and undertake deliveries between Scottish Power Transmission depots using SPEN vehicles.
- Provide a high level of customer service to all internal and external stakeholders.
- Handle and store fluorinated gases (F-Gases) in accordance with regulatory requirements and company procedures.
- Operate forklifts, cranes, and HGVs (or be willing to undertake relevant training) to safely manage the movement of large, specialised, and high-value equipment.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of inventory records through regular stock control activities, ensuring SAP records consistently reflect physical stock holdings.
- Perform routine cycle counts and inventory audits, investigating discrepancies and implementing corrective actions to improve stock accuracy.
- Ensure all materials and assets are stored securely within designated locations, maintaining high standards of housekeeping and warehouse organisation.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards, ensuring all activities are carried out in compliance with company policies and legislation.
- Conduct routine inspections of lifting and handling equipment, storage systems, shelving, and racking to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
- Undertake basic condition monitoring of stored assets, ensuring equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer specifications and operational requirements.
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrate working knowledge of stores and logistics functions and show understanding of the importance of stock control.
- Sound knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices.
- Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and supportive of the wider goal of a zero-accident culture.
- Be IT literate with a proficiency in Microsoft 365 and SAP.
- Able to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
- Show a flexible approach with the ability to prioritise tasks.
- Ability to devise solutions and react swiftly to complex problems/challenges.
- Ability to communicate with customers and colleagues.
- Have experience using mechanical handling equipment including the use of forklifts, cranes and pallet trucks.
- Know how to carry out risk assessments.
- Good time management and strong organisational skills.
Minimum Criteria
- Full clean and valid UK driving licence.
- Hold or be willing to obtain valid forklift licence. (Counterbalance and Reach).
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Enthusiastic and flexible approach.
- Expertise in IT systems relevant to stores such as Microsoft office and SAP.
- Committed to the continual improvement of the business and possess an ability to identify potential improved practice and implement change.
- Motivated and performance-driven with a commitment to working within a team.
- Ability to form good working relationships with other departments/ business units.
- Hold or be willing to obtain HGV class 2 with valid CPC.
