What you'll be doing

As Contracts Engineer, you'll lead the development, procurement, implementation and ongoing management of major service contracts across Transmission Operations. • Developing and delivering tendering and contract strategies across a portfolio of complex, high-value agreements, including Cable Maintenance and Overhead Line Minor Refurbishment contracts.
  • Collaborating with Procurement and operational teams to develop detailed scopes of work and prepare high-quality Invitation to Tender (ITT) documentation.

  • Negotiating contract terms and conditions with contractors and legal teams to achieve commercially robust and sustainable agreements.
  • Managing the full contract lifecycle, including implementation, performance monitoring, contract variations, amendments and change control.
  • Building strong relationships with contractors and outsourced service providers, driving continuous improvement and service excellence.
  • Chairing contract and project review meetings to ensure effective governance, performance management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Supporting wider procurement activities and initiatives that promote consistency, efficiency and best practice across the business.
  • Contributing to monthly reporting, providing clear updates on contract performance, commercial risks and opportunities.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who combines strong commercial awareness with excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced operational environment.

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Contract Management or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong experience in commercial contract management, procurement and tendering activities across complex projects or operational environments.
  • Experience within utilities, energy, infrastructure or asset-intensive industries would be highly advantageous. We also welcome applications from candidates with relevant experience across the wider construction sector, including civils, engineering, maintenance, rail, water, highways or major projects.
  • Experience preparing tender specifications, evaluating submissions and supporting procurement processes.
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge, with the ability to identify risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with the confidence to prioritise and respond to changing business needs.
  • The ability to think strategically, balancing short-term operational requirements with long-term business objectives.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with experience building productive relationships across multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring and supporting the development of colleagues and teams.
