Help us create a better future, quicker. The purpose of the Health & Safety Systems Lead is to ensure SPT Projects maintain robust, reliable, and compliant health and safety management systems. The role exists to develop, implement, and continuously improve systems, ensuring accurate data capture, reporting, and governance. By monitoring compliance, analysing trends, and supporting operational teams, the Lead helps the organisation meet legal obligations, strengthen risk controls, and drive a culture of safety excellence in relation to processes and procedures, supporting Scottish Power to help drive the UK toward its Net Zero Targets.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Update and improve the SPT Projects Health and Safety Integrated Management System in line with business change and evolving requirements.
  • Manage the SPT Health and Safety SharePoint site for document management systems by ensuring documentation is marked as under review/accepted, with the owners and review dates noted.
  • Ensure process improvement and streamlining of processes to ensure continuous improvement, aligned to wider Networks requirements, where possible, with local process arrangements in place to suit SPT Projects business needs.
  • Lead and implement a programme of internal compliance Category A audits, ensuring relevant data is captured, reviewed and appropriate actions taken by defined dates.
  • Review monthly performance reports for each portfolio to ensure systems and compliance is implemented.
  • Ensure lessons learned and process improvements are captured, and the relevant procedures are updated and communicated to the business.
  • Act as the SPT Projects representative in external certification with respect to Health and Safety and Compliance e.g., ISO 45001 audits.
  • Responsible for SPT Projects internal process updates in relation to health and safety by providing an update to all SPT employees to highlight updates or changes in processes/procedures.
  • Develop and maintain an annual plan for internal audits in line with the Integrated Management System, wider Group requirements and associated external accreditations.
  • Ensure a wide range of category A, B and C inspection templates are in place, implemented, reviewed and quality checked.
  • Review and maintain associated system templates on SafetyCulture for auditing.
  • Act as a central support for the SPT Projects Health and Safety team for the coordination of non-conformances raised through non-compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Lead on internal working groups within SPT Projects and wider business requirements to assist with operational change to meet business strategy.
  • Assist with the implementation of the AQ and Contractor Improvement Process by ensuring contractors and the supply chain adhere to minimum safety requirements through the tender process.
  • Adhere to the SPEN training matrix and identify gaps in the system across all SPT Health and Safety processes and procedures by carrying out internal compliance inspections to assess compliance with training requirements.
  • Continual improvement for all Health and Safety processes through consistent internal gap analysis.
  • Prioritise gap analysis based on legislative, contractual requirements and best practice.
  • Feed into monthly performance reports based on associated working group updates, system updates, compliance and non-compliance for Health and Safety KPIs.

What you’ll bring:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in H&S or related discipline.
  • Significant experience in a health and safety role in the construction of energy related projects.
  • Significant experience in a management systems role dealing with external certificates bodies.
  • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification and auditing experience.
  • Minimum Tech IOSH membership, with the aim of working towards Chartered Membership.
  • Proven experience in providing expert safety and quality advice including interaction with engineering, project teams and suppliers to ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Experience advising, coaching, leading, influencing and monitoring best practice for SPT Projects Health and Safety management systems and compliance.
  • Proven ability to work and influence a team environment.
  • Experience of internal auditing, gap analysis, performance reporting and associated continual improvement.
  • Able to demonstrate competency at a level equal to the requirement of a Tech Member of IOSH as a minimum, working towards Chartered membership.
  • Ability and experience of working with CDM Regulations to implement best practice for work activities with SPT Projects.
  • Current valid driving licence.
