The Smart Grid Operations department is delivering a wide range of RIIO-driven strategic projects across current and future regulatory price control periods. At the same time, the team is responsible for maintaining the safe and reliable operation of telecommunications, Radio Tele switch Service (RTS) and infrastructure networks. As part of our continued drive for operational excellence, we are undertaking several key transformation initiatives, including a significant Telecommunications Transformation programme.

This role will be responsible for leading the successful delivery of the Telecommunications Transformation programme, before assuming responsibility for the delivery of other major capital projects within Smart Grid Operations.

Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for managing projects throughout their full lifecycle, from initial development through to successful close-out. This includes the effective administration and management of contracts, ensuring project outputs, performance metrics and key milestones are delivered in line with business objectives.
  • You will proactively identify, manage and mitigate project risks, resolving emerging issues to minimise impact on delivery.
  • Working collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders, you will promote high levels of engagement and customer service while developing accurate capital expenditure forecasts and output projections for assigned projects.
  • You will maintain full accountability for project governance, contractual compliance and financial performance.
  • A key aspect of this position will be contributing to the successful delivery and outperformance of the regulatory price control period through the identification, promotion and implementation of innovation, efficiencies and value engineering opportunities.
  • You will develop, manage and monitor project schedules and programmes, ensuring asset data and project records are accurately maintained within Smart Grid Operations asset management systems and in accordance with company policies and required timescales.
  • You will champion continuous improvement by conducting project and contract reviews, capturing lessons learned and sharing best practice across the wider business.
  • In addition, you will support the ongoing development of project management methodologies, behaviours and governance frameworks across the portfolio, while providing support to the Head of Smart Grid Operations, the Smart Grid Operations PMO and the Telecommunications Manager in the successful delivery of the Telecommunications Transformation Programme.

What you’ll bring

  • We are seeking an experienced project professional with a proven track record of successfully delivering major programmes within a comparable environment, such as Energy or Telecommunications.
  • Experience in leading large-scale Telecommunications transformation programmes would be highly advantageous.
  • You will bring a strong foundation in project management methodologies and/or relevant professional qualifications, alongside demonstrable expertise in project risk management and control.
  • This will be complemented by solid knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and financial management, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • With a clear understanding of quality assurance principles and processes, you will also possess sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills are essential to the role.
  • You will be adept at developing effective solutions to complex challenges and have a working knowledge of continuous improvement and process optimisation practices.
