The Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) Transmission (SPT) business is pivotal in delivering the UK’s Clean Power 2030 and Net Zero ambitions. Our RIIO-T3 £12bn business plan has commenced, this will be focused on accelerating investment, securing economic growth and strengthening network resilience and enabling the rapid connection of low‑carbon generation across central and southern Scotland.

We have a unique opportunity for a Senior Analyst to join our high‑performing Regulatory Economics and Policy team to shape the future of the transmission network. With an ambitious pipeline of infrastructure delivery, innovation, and whole‑system planning, you will be joining a team who play a crucial role in our ever-evolving energy environment.

What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Policy Analyst at SPT, you will operate at the heart of the UK’s energy transition, navigating a fast‑moving and highly influential policy landscape.

This role will:

  • Lead analysis and shape SPTs responses to fast-moving policy developments across DESNZ, NESO, Ofgem and the Scottish Government by co-ordinating internal input to consultations, impact assessments and regulatory submissions.

  • Interpret complex regulatory and industry reforms, translating them into clear strategic positions to ensure SP Transmission remains ahead of the evolving policy landscape.

  • Develop and influence policy positions that support network investment, system resilience and net zero delivery.

  • Drive engagement with key stakeholders across government and industry to support a resilient, low-carbon electricity system.

  • Identify and assess the commercial impacts of regulatory risks and opportunities across the major project portfolio, supporting internal project teams.

  • Provide clear, concise briefings and strategic advice to senior leadership on emerging policy risks and opportunities.

  • Work collaboratively across government affairs, engineering, planning and commercial teams to align policy with delivery priorities.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong understanding of UK energy policy, regulation and market frameworks, ideally with experience across DESNZ, Ofgem, NESO or devolved government

  • A proactive mindset, with the initiative to anticipate policy developments, identify opportunities, and drive work forward independently

  • Strong analytical, numeracy skills with a high attention to detail and sound judgement with proven ability to analyse complex policy and regulatory developments and translate them into clear strategic insights

  • Experience of working in fast‑paced, evolving environments and managing competing priorities effectively

  • Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to brief senior leaders and distil complex issues into accessible messages

  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams

  • Hold a relevant economics qualification (desirable)
