Reporting to the Lead Electrical Engineer and part of the Operations Engineering Team, the O&M HV Cables Engineer is responsible for implementing and deploying the strategy for the management of HV/MV/LV power cable systems within the UK Offshore Renewables business. The role ensures that a fit-for-purpose and robust network infrastructure is in place throughout the full offshore asset lifecycle, defining and delivering the necessary maintenance, renovation, and improvement projects.

While the primary focus is on supporting UK offshore wind farms, the role operates within a global business environment and will provide support to offshore assets across the UK and other regions as required, contributing to the development of global HV cable asset management systems.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead technical due diligence for new HV cable installations, ensuring design, installation, testing, and documentation meet regulatory, quality, and industry standards.
  • Define and manage required HV cable spares and associated accessories for offshore projects.
  • Manage assigned maintenance contracts, driving cost optimisation and maximising business EBITDA.
  • Define improvement and maintenance strategies for HV/MV/LV cable systems to ensure:
    • High asset availability
    • Regulatory compliance
    • Best-in-class service quality aligned with international standards
  • Identify technical risks related to asset condition and develop risk mitigation plans.
  • Investigate HV cable system issues through troubleshooting and root cause analysis, implementing solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and maintain contingency planning procedures to ensure effective response to unplanned events.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices across other Offshore O&M Hubs.
  • Prepare method statements and implement corrective and preventive maintenance activities, directly or via contractors.
  • Support the development and application of electrical safety management philosophy, promoting a strong safety culture aligned with regulatory and company standards.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities with SPR technical site teams, ensuring quality, schedule adherence, and H&S compliance.
  • Support new offshore projects by defining technically robust and maintainable cable solutions in collaboration with Project teams.
  • Coordinate electrical maintenance strategies with European O&M Hubs to ensure global standardisation.
  • Prepare Scopes of Work and conduct technical supplier evaluations, actively supporting procurement processes.
  • Interface with Global Technical Services, Offshore Site Teams, OEMs, Grid Operators, Certification Bodies, and Regulators as required.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (minimum).
  • Significant experience in HV cable operation and maintenance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to influence decisions.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation, and summarisation skills.
  • Experience of offshore electrical equipment and systems.
  • Contract management and scope definition experience.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and analytical skills.
  • IT literate, proficient with MS Office and project management tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in an international, multicultural environment.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK & Europe.
  • Experience of HV Cable interfaces such as HV Electrical Plant would be advantageous.
