The role of Craftsperson (Overhead Lines) offers an exciting and diverse array of challenges as well as excellent opportunities for personal development.As Craftsperson (Overhead Lines), you will carry out the maintenance, repair and inspection of the overhead network within the license area, ensuring compliance with current SP Energy Networks policies and quality systems and that all work is delivered safely, within allocated timescales, to the correct specification and to budget.

This role will include an intensive 6-month training course and will run in conjunction with the C&G Electrical Engineering course.

Upon completion of the necessary training – you will be:

Responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair and inspection of assets associated with the LV/11KV/33kV network, you will become part of a team that will carry out the maintenance, repair and inspection of the network, ensuring compliance with current SP Energy Networks policies and quality systems and that all work is delivered safely, within allocated timescales, to the correct specification and to budget.

What you’ll be doing

Responding to overhead lines work for construction, maintenance and fault repair activities, you will be required to complete operational switching of the network, including fault finding and testing up to 33kV.

Planning jobs, obtaining materials, vehicles and equipment, you will receive all safety documents, pre-vet jobs which includes risk assessments and liaison with landowners, undertake hands-on, short stick and long stick live line work, connection of generators and HGV driving where appropriate. Standby duties will also be required.

The successful candidate would need to demonstrate as a minimum:

  • 2yrs experience within an industry
  • Full valid driving licence
