Role

The Project Manager is responsible for leading the development of strategically important transmission infrastructure projects within the development phase, including handover to delivery. The role will ensure projects are developed safely, efficiently and in compliance with regulatory, environmental and planning requirements, whilst maintaining alignment with SPEN's Net Zero ambitions, RIIO-T3 commitments and strategic business objectives. They will be accountable for delivering high-quality, investable projects that are ready to progress into construction, managing programme, cost, risk, stakeholders and governance throughout the project lifecycle.

What you'll be doing

  • Management of identified projects during the conceptual, developmental and handover to construction phases.
  • Delivery of outputs, incentive metrics and milestones in line with business targets
  • Effectively manage project risk and mitigation while delivering scope safely to cost and programme.
  • Management and administration of contracts and ITT's
  • Development of accurate capital expenditure forecasts and output projections on assigned projects, with full accountability for project, contractual and financial governance.
  • Creation, management and monitoring of project programmes
  • Promotion and implementation of external and internal stakeholder engagement and community liaison for projects, including compliance with the SPEN Grantors Charter
  • Driving continual improvement by completing project and contract reviews, identifying lessons learned and sharing these with the wider business. Make proposals and introduce changes for best project management practice and behaviour across the wider project portfolio.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring projects are developed in compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Support planning and consenting activities including Section 37, Section 36, Town & Country Planning applications and Environmental Impact Assessment processes.

What you'll bring

  • Significant experience managing the Development of Large Capital Projects.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes and procedures.
  • Expertise in contract management (NEC, SPT D&C, JCT & FIDIC).
  • Knowledge of financial control and forecasting.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance processes
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in risk management, project management, contract management.
  • Thorough understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrable experience in change management.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and influence outcomes across complex organisational structures.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Financial acumen - forecasting, cost control, and capital efficiency planning.
  • Excellent organisational and planning capability, managing long-term, multi-year projects and multi-disciplinary resources.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Minimum Criteria

  • Extensive project management experience within large-scale infrastructure, utilities, energy or construction environments.
  • Proven experience leading projects through concept, development and pre-construction phases.
  • Strong understanding of planning, consenting and stakeholder management processes.
  • Demonstrable experience managing complex NEC4 contracts and consultant frameworks.
  • Strong financial and commercial management capability.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation, including CDM 2015.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities within a strategic portfolio environment.

Desirable

  • Professional qualification such as APM PMQ, APM Chartered Project Professional, PMP or equivalent.
  • Experience in electricity transmission, utilities, renewable energy or major infrastructure sectors.
  • Knowledge of Ofgem regulatory frameworks and RIIO business planning.
