The Senior Contracts Manager position is a significant role within the Iberdrola Global Onshore business, leading management of key contracts within its UK Projects and Construction Onshore business constructing a vast portfolio of windfarms, Solar and Battery Projects across the UK and Ireland. This role will include working closely with wider Projects and Construction teams, Legal, Insurance, Financial and Group Purchasing teams to ensure contracts are managed effectively.
The Senior Contracts Manager will report to the Capex and Contracts Manager and be responsible for development and implementation of Commercial Management for ScottishPower Renewables Onshore Projects and Construction Business. The Senior Contract Manager will line manage a team of contract managers and support defining contracting strategies, plans, tendering, negotiating, and managing multi-million-pound onshore Equipment Supply and Project implementation contracts. In addition, the individual will be responsible for supporting development, and driving implementation of procedures within the Contracts and Capex function for use across the Projects and Construction business area.
What you’ll be doing- For all UK Onshore turbine and infrastructure supply contract tenders, be the Projects and Construction Commercial representative for contract specifications and processes.
- Providing development and line management responsibility of other contract managers in the function and line management.
- Leading the end to end commercial contract cycle, involving strategy, procurement, implementation, management and claims phases of multi-million-pound critical contracts.
- Leading the development and implementation of contract strategies for the SPR UK Onshore Construction Portfolio to maximise contract value and mitigate risk.
- Through specialist knowledge of contract management, identify, manage and deliver competitive tendering strategies to support business commercial and performance objectives.
- Working closely with the Procurement team and Construction teams to prepare detailed contract scope for invitations to tender for designated contracts that clearly set out SPR’s technical and commercial requirements.
- Coordinating Financial Investment Decisions (FID) dossier preparation and submission for projects, budgeting, support and governance to Project Managers, risk management and resource planning to support the development and construction of greenfield and repower renewable power projects.
- Evaluating the technical and commercial aspects of tender submissions and making recommendations to the Contracts and Capex Manager, Onshore Projects and Construction Team and Procurement team.
- Leading the negotiation of the commercial aspects of designated contracts to deliver commercial solutions that balance SPR Onshore Projects and Construction objectives, mitigation of commercial risk and compatibility between technical and commercial elements to deliver best value operational contracts.
- Supporting Senior Managers with above tasks on high value, high criticality contracts.
- Leading audits, assessment of designated suppliers and contractors to support ongoing development of contract strategies to ensure business commercial success and mitigation of associated risks.
- Leading commercial meetings with Contractors to manage commercial risks, monitor claims made by either party through detailed contract review and effective supplier relationship management.
- Acting as key point of contact for the Projects and Construction and Commercial teams in relation to contract timeframes, scope, costs, payments, and Budget implications.
- Facilitating routine interface with SP Procurement and Control departments to ensure successful delivery of business requirements relating to these support functions.
- Supporting development and implementation of SPR best practice processes, procedures and management instructions, within the SPR ISO:9001 accredited Integrated Management System ISO:9001, to ensure effective and consistent management of commercial and financial obligations.
- Leading the development of contract strategy for strategic frameworks to optimise costs and strategically manage commercial activities to support delivery of Project Programmes.
- Ensuring the requirements of the management system are embedded within designated contracts across the scope of the SPR Projects and Construction activities.
- Supporting Contracts and Capex Manager to deliver SPR annual Opex and Capex budgets for the project’s portfolio.
- Enacting role of SAP requisitioner to ensure that contracts are raised and managed in line with business requirements.
- Supporting the development and implementation of internal commercial awareness training across the Projects and Construction Teams and delivering such training where appropriate.
- Ensuring compliance with commercial terms in key contacts associated with contract price adjustments and variations associated with annual indexation and contract terms and conditions, and driving accurate delivery of these requirements during the term of the contracts.
- Educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Commercial Discipline.
- High level of direct experience in leading and managing high value, complex and critical Project Delivery, Component Supply and Engineering contracts.
- Knowledge and experience in creation and analysis of detailed contract performance reports, identification of performance issues, development of action plans for resolution of issues, driving performance improvements and managing claims processes arising from contractor/ owner contract non-deliverables.
- Good all-round understanding of financial, commercial and business principles and risk mitigation practices.
- Ability to determine when optimum commercial terms have been achieved during a negotiation process with justification for recommending such terms for approval.
- Ability to think strategically to ensure commercial guidance supports immediate and long-term strategic objectives.
- Possess a solid understanding of the commercial processes associated with Industrial scale Construction Projects (ideally with Renewable Project experience).
- Strong people skills with the ability to form effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and utilise these relationships to successfully deliver role.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to lead and negotiate multiple complex commercial arrangements and discussions.
- Understanding of Health & Safety legislation, awareness of criticality of Health & Safety obligations of the contractors, in the context of complex engineering and large scale CDM project activities.
- Detailed experience of large-scale generation component supply and Project Delivery contracts, heavy engineering is essential, large and complex understanding of global and local contracts and processes.
