What you’ll be doing
The position of Android Developer sits within the Digital function of our Retail business, reporting into Digital Engineering Manager. As an Android Developer within Digital Team you will be working in small product squad alongside iOS developers, Backend developers, QA testers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, UX designers. With daily downloads in excess of 1 million, you have potential to make a huge impact on our customer’s digital experience. Our YourEnergy app is 100% Kotlin, built using MVVM architecture with Android libraries such as ObjectBox, NavGraph, LiveData, Jetpack Compose. Coroutines are heavily used throughout the app. We’re looking for a senior level Android developer with a passion for writing great code with customer’s needs at the forefront of mind. You’ll recognise the need to write tested, clean, maintainable code while moving fast in an agile environment.
Responsibilities
- Work in a small product squad alongside iOS developers, Backend developers, QA testers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and UX designers.
- Develop the YourEnergy app using Kotlin, MVVM, ObjectBox, NavGraph, LiveData, Jetpack Compose and Coroutines.
- Write tested, clean, maintainable code and move fast in an agile environment.
- Provide development support for the ScottishPower family of Digital platforms.
- Create visually appealing digital solutions featuring user‑friendly design and clean navigation.
- Participate in process improvements across the Digital department by capturing change improvements.
- Assess external and internal factors to maximise benefits and minimise risks where appropriate for the business.
- Produce effective developments.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Android Studio.
- Experience with Kotlin or Java.
- Comfortable connecting to RESTful APIs (Retrofit).
- Familiarity with versioning tools (e.g. Git or SVN).
- Experience with Google Play / app release process.
- Knowledge of Agile / Scrum processes.
- Familiarity of Coroutines.
- Experience in Compose.
- Experience in Gradle.
- Experience with debugging tools.
- Experience / familiarity of Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery, test driven development and writing of UI tests would be an advantage.
