Are you ready to be part of a high-performing team at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition? At SP Energy Networks, our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. Our team is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity — and increasingly, renewable electricity — safely, securely, and sustainably in the communities we serve. We’re investing in smarter, greener infrastructure to support the UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
We know people are central to building a better future, quicker, and we are seeking new talent to join our team to help us get there. We’re looking for a Commissioning & Compliance Manager to join our Customer Service team at SP Energy Networks. In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee the planning and coordination of commissioning and compliance activities across the SPM network — ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant integration of new assets and generator connections, while maintaining system integrity and meeting customer service standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
- A key part of your role will be fostering a strong team culture, and working closely with internal and external stakeholders — including NESO, NGET, and other DNOs — to manage risk and support the delivery of our ambitious investment plans.
- You’ll also be responsible for developing robust policies and strategies, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and representing SPM in government-led industry groups if required.
- Your work will directly contribute to building a resilient network as we transition towards Net Zero.
- Lead and develop the Commissioning & Compliance team to plan for the integration of new network assets and monitor generator compliance.
- Coordinate all commissioning and compliance activities across the SPM network.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (e.g. STCPs, EREC G99).
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including NESO, NGET, and other DNOs.
- Develop and implement policies and strategies to manage risk and maintain system integrity.
- Represent SPM in regulatory and industry forums as required.
- Support the delivery of new technologies including HVDC, DSO, and FES.
- Act as Duty Manager and contribute to emergency planning as required.
What you’ll bring
- We’re looking for a confident and experienced leader with a strong engineering background and a passion for operational excellence.
- You’ll bring a deep understanding of commissioning and compliance, along with the ability to interact with highly skilled engineers in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
- A degree or HNC in Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Expert knowledge of SP Energy Networks’ policies, procedures, and working practices (desirable).
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation, with a proven safety-first mindset.
- Operational experience across Transmission and/or Distribution networks (desirable).
- Experience in a line management role, with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop others.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills — both written and verbal.
- Strong customer service orientation and stakeholder management experience.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and network/business data tools (e.g. PowerOn Advantage, e-Terra).
- Commercial awareness, including contract and SLA management.
- Ability to develop and implement innovative solutions to complex technical and operational challenges.
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and make balanced decisions.
