Purpose
Reporting to the Overhead Line Design Manager, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for Transmission networks projects (132kV, 275kV & 400kV). Providing the necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for projects, you will drive innovation, effective technical support, advice and input throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Responsibilities
- Leading and managing a group of professional Design and Senior Design Engineers, you will provide advice on the development of pre-contract design and delivery of projects by leading/supporting technical aspects of OHL systems.
- Carry out assessments of engineering documentation, its feasibility and compliance with client requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects, you will advise on construction and outage programmes where required in relation to OHL engineering.
- Being responsible for overseeing and undertaking basic and detailed engineering specifications, including designs for OHL systems, you will provide technical assessments of tender submissions and make recommendations.
- Defining OHL system requirements for input to System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and UK trading agreement documentation, you will ensure all designs and equipment are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
- Leading the technical tender assessment of OHL systems including ancillaries and suppliers, you will also technically support Project Development and Project Delivery teams on matters concerning design, construction and operation of OHLs and associated equipment.
What you’ll bring
- Degree qualified in Engineering discipline or with previous equivalent experience, you will be working towards membership of a professional institution.
- Experienced in using PLS-CADD software, you will possess significant knowledge and experience in a responsible position in Transmission network overhead line and associated equipment engineering.
- With good inter-personal, communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with individuals, departments and businesses, you will hold the ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice within a design environment.
- Representing departments and project teams regarding OHL engineering issues, decisions, standards and industry best practice, you will be required to undertake short trips away from home as well as flexibility in working hours to meet requirements of this position.
